I never turn my fuel cock to off and have never had any problems. Recently I turned it to reserve and then to off and then back to on. I rode about 24 miles to Rich99's house to sync my carbs and when I got there he noticed that fuel was leaking from the front of the fuel cock where the switch was. No fuel was coming from around the hose. Just a slow drip. When I got back home, it had stopped and has not done it since but I have not moved the switch.

This is my question. Can I just remove the fuel cock and take it apart and replace any o-rings that might be binding up or do I have to order a whole new one? Should I even worry about fixing it since it is no longer leaking?

Please help! I do not want to catch fire riding down the road.:225:

I'd keep an eye on it and would also move the petcock every now and then.

My guess is that the rubber got hard and took a little while to change shape. The gas probably swelled the rubber back up and stopped the leak.

I had the same thing happen one time and it has never happened again. I too believe that the rubber got hard and once that gas hit it the thing swelled back up to stop the leak.

I don't touch my fuel tap. She's on reserve 24/7.

Mine, too. :happy34: Too many low fuel warnings lights and such to actually justify a reserve position. You gotta warning light, a fuel gauge & count down trip meter. Last thing I need is to take my hands off the bars and fumble around with a petcock. :)
