Brake Pad Posted July 26, 2009 #2 Posted July 26, 2009 Look on the floor and see if your bike is parked over a rag........
GeorgeS Posted July 26, 2009 #3 Posted July 26, 2009 Check the resistance across the Ignition Switch, On-OFF contacts. With ohm meter hooked up, tap tap on the switch assembly, see if the Resistance changes. You need zero ohms in on position, and Infinate ( open ) in off. Anything in between is not good. I would make sure this is not the problem, beforeing ripping and tearing into anything else. As, so many of these switches have failed! Also, while in there, good time to install a hidden ByPass switch, for the On-Off contacts.
wizard Posted July 26, 2009 #4 Posted July 26, 2009 If it only barely runs at idle and only with the choke pulled completely, and you did not hear the fuel pump tick, take the left side cover off, just below the seat, and touch the fuel pump. If it's hot, let it cool down, than try it again. My pump would fail like that. The bike will run without a pump, but you must bypass it completely. Run your fuel line from the petcock directly to the carbs. It seemed that the pump would only fail when starting the bike. It would run until the carbs were dry, just enough to be about a mile from the house.
1sttenor Posted July 27, 2009 #5 Posted July 27, 2009 Just had mine replaced. Open the cover and lightly tap the fuel pump (behind the left side cover). I bet it will pump up. That was exactly how mine acted!
davecb Posted July 27, 2009 #6 Posted July 27, 2009 It's under warranty.....Take it to the dealer........
