Gary N. Posted July 26, 2009 #1 Posted July 26, 2009 Never been fishing before so when some friends invited us to go to their favorite fish'n place we said "sure why not". So we left yesterday AM and drove the space shuttle (fishing yaught in tow) and stayed over night in North Bay Ontario. This morning we carried on to our final destination, Elk Lake Ontario. This place is even further north than where Charlie (e-fish'n-c) lives. Nice place. Seems to rain a lot and the sceaters are man eaters. Can't sit outside. No TV. Internet is hit and miss. Thank goodness for pretty blonds and satellite radio. If it stops raining tomorrow, I guess the next thing to do is catch minnows in order to catch something bigger???? This should be interesting. Stay tuned.
mini-muffin Posted July 26, 2009 #2 Posted July 26, 2009 (edited) Well at least you can stay in the boat and do something I'm sure. Have fun. Margaret Edited July 26, 2009 by mini-muffin
Yammer Dan Posted July 26, 2009 #3 Posted July 26, 2009 further north than Charlie??Have you seen anybody wearing red underware??

ArticusMedicus Posted July 26, 2009 #5 Posted July 26, 2009 Once you get past the skeeters you got it licked. DEET is bad for you, but it will become you bestest friend. But once you get a good fish on the line YOU will be the one that is hooked... And if you thing motorcycling can get expensive, you ain't seen nuttin yet!
E-Fishin-C Posted July 26, 2009 #6 Posted July 26, 2009 ... And if you thing motorcycling can get expensive, you ain't seen nuttin yet! You are correct in saying fishing is more expensive than motorcycling $3000.00 for a fishfinder. $65,000 for a Lund boat and than theirs the insurance and THE GAS and flowers for you wife for forgetting to do the honey do list:rotfl:
ArticusMedicus Posted July 26, 2009 #7 Posted July 26, 2009 Lets not forget the 6-10 grand in tackle sitting in the boxes and bags.
dragerman Posted July 26, 2009 #8 Posted July 26, 2009 Hey Gary, I was up in Elk Lake just last month visiting my mom while attending the New Liskeard Motorcycle Reunion. You’re right about the flies... you’ve gotta put your helmet on before you go outside to keep those pesky little black-flies from getting in your hair. Nothing worse then having something walking around inside your skidlid while you’re trying to ride! If you stop in at the local Yamaha dealer/gas bar Elk Lake Work’n’Play say hi to Brother Rob. Good luck with the fishing!
RandyR Posted July 26, 2009 #9 Posted July 26, 2009 skeeters make great fish callers. Black flies too. You catch them, and put them in a jar. Maybe a 100 or 200. Then lower the jar in the water and the bug buzz calls the fish right to your hook.
Gary N. Posted July 26, 2009 Author #10 Posted July 26, 2009 WHAT!!!!! Gary N. Posted July 26, 2009 Author #11 Posted July 26, 2009 If you stop in at the local Yamaha dealer/gas bar Elk Lake Work’n’Play say hi to Brother Rob. Good luck with the fishing! Will do Charlie.
Yama Mama Posted July 26, 2009 #12 Posted July 26, 2009 Gary I hope you catch some fish. And I also hope the skeeters leave you and Mary alone. Have fun, tell Mary, Ron and I said hi. Yama Mama:hurts:
Marcarl Posted July 26, 2009 #13 Posted July 26, 2009 Worst thing is, when you're with friends,,,,,,,and after all you go through, to look and act like you're liking it,,,,,and you do catch a fish,,,,,,they sit there and expect you to eat that sucker,,,,,,,,,,,,now that's grosssss..........
Yama Mama Posted July 26, 2009 #14 Posted July 26, 2009 Throw them back Gary, let them live another fishy day. YamaMama:fishin:
Sling Posted July 26, 2009 #16 Posted July 26, 2009 A couple of weeks ago I bought 2 collapsible fishin' poles. When broken down they fit into the saddlebags, and when assembled they are 5'6" ultra light tackle.. There is nothing more relaxing then riding the bike to a pond and sitting on the bank and throwing the bait in the water! "Even if ya don't catch anything":bawling:
dragerman Posted July 26, 2009 #17 Posted July 26, 2009 Hey Gary, if you’re fishing Pickerel try using a small/med Go Getter with either a worm or a minnow on it then fish off the bottom with patients. Pike is a no brainer, 4” silver Williams Wobbler with a leader... set your drag, keep it moving and hang onto your rod... but it’s our little secret ok! Here are the Go Getters I’m talking about: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_77753_100010000_100000000_100010000_100-10-0 If your arms get sore from hauling in the big ones (I know what it’s like, we would have to fish for an hour just to make enough room to put the boat in!) slip down the road towards Charlton and go visit the Hill’s Lake Fish Hatchery. It’s an impressive facility and the fish are in various stages of growth, from fries on up to breeders [nomedia= ] [/FON"]YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia] . Ask for Ron Ward (I believe he’s still the manager there), we use to dive together. He’ll be happy to show you around.
RandyR Posted July 27, 2009 #18 Posted July 27, 2009 I need to get one of those collapsable rods. I just found a beautiful trout stream about 45 minutes from my house, that I didn't know was there until out exploring on my new 200cc Suzuki on Saturday...
Gary N. Posted July 28, 2009 Author #19 Posted July 28, 2009 So far bike riding is a lot more fun than fishing. Managed to get out yesterday at last but while I was feeding the fish I was able to get my line tangled twice and catch a stick before the rain came back again and got us soaked to the skin. We didn't get that wet riding to Maine and back a couple of weeks ago. We did get to see the "3 bears" at a dump on Sunday. They were having smorgasbord.

Gary N. Posted July 28, 2009 Author #23 Posted July 28, 2009 If you stop in at the local Yamaha dealer/gas bar Elk Lake Work’n’Play say hi to Brother Rob. Good luck with the fishing! Hey Charlie, stopped to see Rob and say hi for ya. Do you owe him money or something?????
dragerman Posted July 28, 2009 #24 Posted July 28, 2009 Hey Charlie, stopped to see Rob and say hi for ya. Do you owe him money or something????? Lol... did he have his long face on?... I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen him smile , the poor boy is overworking himself . Some of those northern folks can be pretty hard on their ATV’s, he keeps fix’n them and they keep break’n them... I don’t think he’s get’n enough ride’n time in .
RandyR Posted July 28, 2009 #25 Posted July 28, 2009 Looks like I'd need something stouter than an ultralight spin rod if I went fishn with you Charlie... a 2 pound rainbow is a big one in the streams near here.
