I am on vacation (went from Ocala, FL to Lewisburg, VA) and on my way back I started to hear the rubbing/grinding/whooshing noise from rear end. I know there has been many posts hear for that but mine is an 089 and I thought it should be warranty. Stopped at the dealer in Columbia, SC and was tied up for a couple of hours. The "Master Mechanic" that was supposed to be so great rode the bike and did hear the noise. He put it on the rack and supposedly lubed everything and inspected everything and said they couldn't find anything wrong but I still have the noise and they knew it. But they said it was safe to ride. Also they charged me $109.00 for not being able to claim warranty because Yamaha wouldn't pay for a non repair. So basically I guess I paid they money to be told "we're to stupid to find the problem". Hopefully my dealer in Ocala will be a little more honorable about it. I can't remember the dealers name in Columbia but there are 2 and they are both owned by the same people. So beware in Columbia. That is why I have warned people not use the Columbia, SC dealers, but go to Sumter, about 40 miles from Columbia. Should have called and we could have taken the rear off and lubed everything for nothing. That is why there is a list of numbers to call and we are on the list. Wish I'd have known about these other posts before my problem cause now I still have the problem. Hopefully I'll find someone in Ocala, FL that knows the problem as well as you guys do. YamaGeezer Posted July 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2009 If I'm not mistaken, there's a new TSB out from Yamaha that deals with drivetrain (sp?) alignment on our Ventures. Or, at least that was what I was told by my dealership in Greenville. I developed a bad "clicking" noise in my rear hub. I was also upset at the noise my drivetrain was making after they put new tires on the bike last month (grinding, whiney noise). I took it in last week because they said they needed to realign the drivetrain. They did it with shims. They also re-lubed everything. The clicking noise is gone, and the whole drivetrain it quieter after the work. It now gains speed coasting down the Saluda Grade (a steep hill) with the clutch engaged - before it would lose speed. My gas mileage has also gotten better (42-44mpg today on a 525 mile ride vs. 35-38mpg before the work). It still ain't perfectly quiet, but much better than before. I'm loving the bike again.
