Redneck Posted September 20, 2007 Share #26 Posted September 20, 2007 Actually as I understand it a TRUE overdrive is an auxiliary transmission. The RSV has 2 overdrive ratios. 4th is .90:1 and 5th being .75:1 or something like that I don't have the exact numbers next to me. Can someone correct me with my terminology if need be? I see the term "true overdrive" used elsewhere...is there a "false overdrive"?Over drive just means that the output is turning faster than the input. The transmission in the rsv is actually a double overdrive. The term true overdrive is just something somebody made up ether it is or it isn't. KiteSquid Posted September 20, 2007 Share #27 Posted September 20, 2007 I just wish the RSV had a 6th gear at about .5:1 OD...... while cruising at highway speeds, I keep looking for another gear. I also wish the RSV had helical cut gears throughout the transmission, for noise reduction. I listen to my transmission, and day dream that it is the gears in a supercharger:rotf:
Steve S Posted September 20, 2007 Share #28 Posted September 20, 2007 I use the rev limiter to let me know when to shift gears. Or just wait til the wife starts pounding me on the helmet.

Guest silvertramp Posted September 21, 2007 Share #31 Posted September 21, 2007 mine hits the limiter @ 90 MPH in 3rd--and loves it.. The harder I run, the faster I shift, the happier it is. My old HD-- well--not so much.
