FreezyRider Posted July 20, 2009 #1 Posted July 20, 2009 I'm beginning to plan a weekend in Southern Indiana for anyone who may be interested. We had such a great time in Lexington Ky over Memorial Day, and several of the Ky folks mentioned that they'd be interested in a Southern Indiana ride. I'm from Northern Indiana (the FLAT and straight part of the state) but have ridden Southern Indiana a lot in the last 5 years. Willing to share the great routes that I know, and willing to have others pitch in with their routes if they'd like. Anyway, I am thinking of either the first or second weekend in October. We'd meet up on Friday evening for dinner, have a full day ride on Saturday and another on Sunday. Folks could come for both days or one....whatever your preference. OK....who would be interested? Any preference on the weekend? Let's hear from you!! Joe
Dano Posted July 20, 2009 #2 Posted July 20, 2009 Count us in, but we probably won't make dinner on Friday. Got high school football, ya know! Which ever weekend works for us, not a problem. Dan
dynodon Posted July 20, 2009 #3 Posted July 20, 2009 I would be interested, maybe my son and wife too. I have a rally route that starts in Franklin a few miles south of Indy to Nashville and around that area, a nice ride that takes up about 5 hours. with a lunch break in Nashville, winding up near Columbus. If interested I could get you the route. It was used the the BMW club (cars) national convention for a rally in 1999. I practically grew up in Southern/Western Indiana as my parents would camp out there every weekend they could in the summer. I love the area. Columbus has a number of hotels that would be a good home base to work from, and it is an interesting city in its own right. Or Bloomington with the college has a number of hotels/motels. Of course it is a long way, but French Lick is a great destination and with the new West Baden casino, there are two superb hotels to choose from there, and the West Baden complex is a tourist destination itself along with the French Lick hotel. let me know if I can help.
Indyventure Posted July 20, 2009 #5 Posted July 20, 2009 BTW...some great riding in Brown county. 135 is a great ride with some great destinations nearby. http://www.storyinn.com/ http://www.nashville-indiana.com/ http://www.browncounty.com/ Nashville in Brown County is an old artist colony that has a lot of shopping and things to do/see. Not that I'm advocating this area..but we know it pretty well.

Bummer Posted July 20, 2009 #7 Posted July 20, 2009 I'm certainly interested, and I'm sure Irene will be too. I'll work on making a weekend of it.
Midrsv Posted July 20, 2009 #8 Posted July 20, 2009 We're interested if it's the first weekend (10/3 - 10/4). We'll be headed to FL the second weekend. Dennis
Mariner Fan Posted July 20, 2009 #9 Posted July 20, 2009 Joe, I can't commit yet due to my work condition. If things stay good then I'll be there. Sounds like fun!
rbucket Posted July 20, 2009 #10 Posted July 20, 2009 Hey All - Newbie here (still missing my 06 Roadstar). Anyway I'm about as South as you can get without being in the Ohio River. Some nice roads here in Perry and Crawford County along with some nice veiws along the Ohio. Couple great places to eat in Levinworth with 600ft verticle views to the River. As a side benifit I run the Corp of Engineers Lock and Dam at Cannelton, IN. so that is a potential stop and short tour. French Lick about 30 minutes North. Let me know if you firm a date, I'd be willing to ride and assist.
djb47 Posted July 20, 2009 #11 Posted July 20, 2009 Joe, Keep me posted. As soon as you set a date let me know, would love to get together again.
FreezyRider Posted July 20, 2009 Author #12 Posted July 20, 2009 OK, after talking to a couple of the local riders, I'm going to go ahead and set it for the first weekend in October. Get it on your calendars! Come on you Kentucky and Ohio and even Illinois riders. Let's make this a big one. The riding season won't last long after the first weekend in October, this will give you memories to hang on to during the winter! Joe
Leadwolf56 Posted July 20, 2009 #13 Posted July 20, 2009 We'll put it on the calendar and as long as work cooperates we'll be there. We had a great time Memorial Day weekend and last Labor Day weekend in that area. I'll also be posting my annual Michigan Lakeshore and Wine Country ride as soon as I find out when Sue will be going to motorcycle safety class. Looking like it will be mid-September.
Jethroish Posted July 20, 2009 #14 Posted July 20, 2009 Since I am already in So. Indiana, I am interested in at least joining y'all. Down along the river from Corydon to Tel City is a great ride too. As well and 135 all the way up.

I would like to hook up with you all Fill Me In Thanks Dave Wells Dave, Don't have all the details worked out yet, but premliminarily thinking of Hwy 62 West out of Corydon, then south on 66 around to Tell City and looping back up to 62 for one ride. Another possible route would be going north on 135 up to Nashville, then down 46 toward Bloomington. Would hit French Lick and possibly the Shoals area....good riding. More details later..... Would be great to meet up with you! Joe
Midrsv Posted July 21, 2009 #17 Posted July 21, 2009 Joe, do you have a meeting place (hotel) picked out? I hear it gets busy in the Brown County area in the fall. We may need to make hotel reservations early. Not sure how close you plan on being to Bloomington but there is a home IU football game against Ohio on 10/3. That will probably fill hotels in that area. Dennis
Chuckles Posted July 23, 2009 #18 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm also in the southern part of the State. Troy, right on the Ohio river. Beautiful rides that time of year from Corydon to Tell City. then up 37 North to French Lick and West Baden. Leaves should be changing about that time and fall is a wonderful time in this area. Keep us posted. Chuckles:thumbsup:

FreezyRider Posted August 10, 2009 Author #22 Posted August 10, 2009 Just so everyone knows..... Next weekend, August 15 and 16, a group of us will be heading down to scout out some roads that look interesting on the map. I have ridden a lot of that area, but have seen some roads on the maps that I just have to check out. After next weekend, we will have some more solid info for everyone.
