Guest curtismiller Posted July 19, 2009 #1 Posted July 19, 2009 I mostly start engine in neutral but when I start it in first gear with clutch in the bike will creep forward while starter is engaged and stop when it starts.Do I need to fix something or just make sure all starting is done in neutral. thanks Curtis
flb_78 Posted July 19, 2009 #2 Posted July 19, 2009 My bike does the same thing. Actually, it kind of jumps forward if I try and start in 1st gear. But every motorcycle I have owned does this.
V7Goose Posted July 19, 2009 #3 Posted July 19, 2009 Somewhat normal for a wet clutch - initially the plates are stuck together, even when the clutch is pulled, but the sudden power of the engine running causes them to free up. Holding the brake should allow the plates to break free with just the power of the starter. This is the same reason you often get a clunk and jerk when you engage 1st gear the first time after starting in the morning. Old oil makes this worse. Changing oil can help, either just fresh oil, or a different brand. But generally, I wouldn't sweat it. Goose

silverdeer0454 Posted July 19, 2009 #5 Posted July 19, 2009 Mine does it too, especially if I haven't ridden in a day or two. Like everyone has said so far, "It's normal" and I agree.
