ActionJax Posted July 17, 2009 #1 Posted July 17, 2009 Help! Took my 83 out last night. BTW MarCarl, she's still running GREAT!! Except I look down and notice that the Temp Gage isn't working. It just sits on the bottom. Now my questions are: is this something to worry about? and how do I fix it? Thanks everyone!
mother Posted July 17, 2009 #2 Posted July 17, 2009 there is a single sensor wire that most likely slipped off the temp sensor. mine did the same thing. on the right side of the bike, just behind the radiator, there is a sensor that is screwed into the back of the rad. there is a single wire with a connector that should be pushed onto this sensor. i took a pair of pliers and gently closed the connector so it would push onto the sensor a little tighter. it is an easy fix. let us know how you make out. cheers, Scott
ActionJax Posted July 17, 2009 Author #3 Posted July 17, 2009 Thanks Mother. I'll look into that when I get home from work today. Is this a pretty easy wire to find? I looked around the yesterday but don't remember seeing anything like you described. Does anyone have a pic of what I should be looking for. (Pics are always helpful. LOL)
mother Posted July 17, 2009 #4 Posted July 17, 2009 if you take the two screws out of the right side rad chrome piece with reflector on it, this will make it easier to see the sensor and the wire that should be plugged onto it. the sensor if i remember is a brass colour, with only one wire that plugs onto it. cheers, Scott
friesman Posted July 17, 2009 #5 Posted July 17, 2009 Geez Scott are you guys back home already? Or still out seeing the world? Brian
IH Truck Guy Posted July 17, 2009 #6 Posted July 17, 2009 Thanks Mother. I'll look into that when I get home from work today. Is this a pretty easy wire to find? I looked around the yesterday but don't remember seeing anything like you described. Does anyone have a pic of what I should be looking for. (Pics are always helpful. LOL) Scott is 100% right on this...But before you gently squeeze the contacts together, take a small piece of sandpaper or emory paper, roll it into a small roll and twist it inside the contact area to clean up the contact area..This repair is a piece of cake..
ActionJax Posted July 17, 2009 Author #7 Posted July 17, 2009 Well, you guys were correct. One of the contacts had come loose. So I removed all three that I found down there. Cleaned the up real good. Used some electric wireing cleaner and put them all back together nice and tight...and voila! Works like a charm. BIG Thanks everybody.
