Except for the time he wasn't blowing on it and it was still making noise???

He was playing while being accompanied by a recording. If you listen close as the piece picks up, there are definately more parts being played.

he's recording each part and playing an accompanyment with himself. it's kidna impressive, imho.

How did he know where to drill the holes?

I wish I knew. I'd be doing a bit of dabbling myself. Peter Schickele (a.k.a. P.D.Q. Bach) knows and he has built his "Left-Handed Sewer Flute", which sometimes plays in tune.

Totally cool!!

As to where to drill the holes, I think he had them marked.

The way he held the carrot, you can't see the marks.

There is some basic math as to where to space the holes.

I used to make flutes, recorders, pan pipes etc. with pvc piping for my kids when they were young.

Actually, I made it mostly for myself...

Lots of fun.
