SilvrT Posted July 12, 2009 #1 Posted July 12, 2009 Got the scoot back around noon today after having the clutch I-basket installed. Put on a few km's (maybe 150) and there's not a whole lot of difference. Whine still comes in around the same rpm as before; however, it is a wee bit quieter ... a bit more tolerable. Maybe after a few more miles and a fresh oil change ..... whatevah ... I'll accept it as-is and just ride! Also got the carbs sync'd ... they were off quite a bit ... she purrs very nice now ... even the RK's sound better!
BIG TOM Posted July 12, 2009 #2 Posted July 12, 2009 After I had mine done, the whine went away................................for about a year, but its back now, but not as bad...like you I say, it is what it is...still love the bike....
FreezyRider Posted July 12, 2009 #3 Posted July 12, 2009 You're breaking my heart, SilvrT. I've been waiting to see how yours turned out.....planning on doing the same to mine. But if it ain't going to help....not sure now. Joe
Gray Ghost Posted July 12, 2009 #4 Posted July 12, 2009 I had mine done and I don't have the whine now. It has been a couple of months.
TEW47 Posted July 12, 2009 #5 Posted July 12, 2009 Had mine done and it lasted for about ten miles and then started to whine again. tew47
clawed Posted July 12, 2009 #6 Posted July 12, 2009 Had my clutch changed to the "I" basket, and 95%+ of the chirp/whistle/wine is gone. And mine had a very bad case of it! (without a helmet..it was ear piercing!) About 1700 miles on the "I" basket and no wine. What a very very big improvement!
SilvrT Posted July 12, 2009 Author #7 Posted July 12, 2009 You're breaking my heart, SilvrT. I've been waiting to see how yours turned out.....planning on doing the same to mine. But if it ain't going to help....not sure now. Joe Joe... you'll never know if you don't try! Go ahead and "git 'r done" ... it might be different for you. You can always have the old basket put back in.
Condor Posted July 12, 2009 #8 Posted July 12, 2009 Did someone mention a whine coming from the final??? Maybe??
SilvrT Posted July 12, 2009 Author #9 Posted July 12, 2009 Did someone mention a whine coming from the final??? Maybe?? nope, it ain't the final drive, I'm certain about that... it's that clutch basket ... and I'm certain about that too. Like I said, certain rpm's (about 3000) is when it comes in and it's much more noticeable in 1st thru 3rd at that rpm ... once into 4th (and the speed is up around 80-90 km/h), I hardly notice it and then into 5th (over 90), about all I hear is the wind, the RK's and the tunes. I'm good with that. Oh yeah ... I occasionally hear Nina ...
SilvrT Posted July 14, 2009 Author #10 Posted July 14, 2009 I'm gonna recant on my original statement (I'll accept it as-is and just ride) ... we put on another 300+ km's yesterday and the route required a lot of slow riding in 2nd & 3rd gear following slow moving vehicles up mountain highways. The whine was almost unbearable at times so, I'm either taking it back to the dealer and get them to put the old basket back in (coz it sure didn't seem to be that bad) or I'll do it myself if they'll let me and the cost for them to do it is too much. Time to punch those baffles out of the RK's I guess. BTW, ran into a couple riding a new Kaw Voyager. They'd just got it and absolutely love it. It's quiet yet has a nice throaty sound (heard them go by while we were stopped beside the hwy), the guy says it's a great handling bike, much better than the 4 Nomads he's owned, has lot's of power and torque but has a bit more vibration at lower rpm's than his older Nomads and they both feel it's very comfortable.
