DragonRider Posted July 11, 2009 #1 Posted July 11, 2009 After much discussion with Charlene, we have decided that future Tail of the Dragon@Vogel will only be taking place every other year, so the next Dragon@Vogel will be the 3rd weekend in August, so the next date it will be held is Aug.17-21, 2011. This will allow us, with Charlene's health permitting, to attend some other events, since putting Vogel together takes so much of our time and almost 1/2 of my vacation. We love doing it, and seeing and meeting old and new friends at Vogel is dear to us, but limits us as to how much we can do of other things. So if you were planning on coming to the next one instead of this one you will have to wait 2 more years for this to happen, so if you cant wait that long now is the time to make it happen.
DragonRider Posted July 12, 2009 Author #3 Posted July 12, 2009 A shameless one at that................... talk about a plug.........................
Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2009 #4 Posted July 12, 2009 Another Push to make it this year. That doctor ain't very smart anyway!!
GaThumper Posted July 12, 2009 #5 Posted July 12, 2009 Any chance of sliding the date a week or so either direction next time? I'm really not sure if it will be a conflict every year, but the GA State CMA Rally is the same weekend this year. Not sure either how many Georgia VentureRiders are also CMA members, and I wouldn't want to cause any body any grief by changing the date just for me, but if it's no big deal and not set in stone? I lead a dual sport ride on Friday at the CMA rally, last year it was 8/22 and this year it is 8/21. So I definately won't be at Vogel on Friday. Kinda puts a kink in any camping plans, too, I'll have to think about that. I plan to come over to Vogel Thursday and maybe split the day Saturday somehow or another, I'm working on it. I'm not sure, but the CMA appears to be sticking to the third weekend in August, too. We have two other Ventures in the Cleveland CMA chapter, so it might be nice if the events didn't conflict. Later, James
Skid Posted July 12, 2009 #6 Posted July 12, 2009 Lew, That is very understandable. We all appreciate the work put into the event each and after having a couple mini rallies here at the house myself, I understand fully the work that goes into setting one up. I had roughly 50 people here for three days for the Skid-In and know everything thats goes on. Thank you for the heads-up in advance. Its been voted on before about other weekends, but I hope it continues being the 3rd weekend as always. Maybe Mini-Muffin or others, will step up to the plate and fill in on the years between the Tail of the Dragon......Hint Hint Sure wish I could have made it to Asheville this weekend......
DragonRider Posted July 12, 2009 Author #7 Posted July 12, 2009 Yeah, wish I could have made Skid In,and Asheville, but just didnt work out, not enough vacation time yet........but I or we will be making more next year, and thats what it is all about, being able to go to more rallies besides mine............ I am sure someone will step up and fill that date on the years that I dont have Vogel. Lew, That is very understandable. Dano Posted July 12, 2009 #9 Posted July 12, 2009 With you on that, Cindi. Our school starts the 10th, Rose has to start that date. So Vogel is out for us this year too. I'll get there one of these days!
RandyR Posted July 12, 2009 #10 Posted July 12, 2009 I stopped at the Fatz Cafe in Blairsville, GA. Its about 1/4 mile east of the Holiday Inn Express that people are staying at, that aren't camping. I told the manager that a group of bikers would be staying in Blairsville and camping at Vogel in a few weeks, and he donated a black XL Fatz tshirt to be given out in the drawing at the rally. I highly recommend Fatz as nice place, having quality food, at very reasonable prices. I eat there whenever I get the chance. Great rolls with every meal....
Venturous Randy Posted July 12, 2009 #11 Posted July 12, 2009 Even though the Asheville Rally is a lot more laid back than the Vogal event, it still takes a bit of work and coordination and $ to put it all together. When I posted the original question 12/7/08 about doing another get together in Asheville, which I suggested as an extended Meet & Eat, we did throw out some dates to see what people would be interested in, and got good feedback. In fact, my original suggestion of what would have been next week, was given up for this week because that is when others wanted it. And, the biggie for us was that we were able to have Mini and Muffinman before he left for the sand box. So, now that you are going to skip next year for Vogal, how about we officially look at doing another Asheville sometime next summer? It really is a motorcyclist paradise and the different roads and ride possibilities are endless. For those interesting in camping, the area by the lilly pond basically ends up being us and has a tremendous amount of room for many tents. RandyA
DragonRider Posted July 12, 2009 Author #12 Posted July 12, 2009 Maybe we can make it there on Wed. nite for our dinner ride.............. I stopped at the Fatz Cafe in Blairsville, GA. Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2009 #13 Posted July 12, 2009 You know what really sucks?? I had vacation scheduled for every one of these this year. And where did I spend them. Sitting right here!! Got to go to the Skid-In thanks to Muffinman and Mini. I have a feeling bike was put in skid's garage to keep me off it but that ain't lasting much longer. That doctor ain't big enough to tell me what to do if he didn't have the Warden backing him up!! I almost have her convinced that if I am carefull I could ride it home and get it ready to " RIDE THE DRAGON"!!!!! And yes Steve it does need just a little tinkering!!!
