CrazyHorse Posted September 14, 2007 #1 Posted September 14, 2007 Does anyone know what type of exhaust tempretures at the head the 1st Gens run or how much of of a differential between cylinders I should look for. I have one of those laser tempreture readers. My bike has an exhaust smell like possibly unburned fuel people have told me and sometimes I feel it might be running on 3 cylinders but seems to run pretty well.
Cutty Posted September 15, 2007 #2 Posted September 15, 2007 I am very old school, when testing to see if cylinder is firing i use water sprayer thingy. Warm engine up 2k rpms until fan comes on, let idle for couple mins. Then spray each pipe at head and watch for steam and compare cylinders. Next test is at 3k, hold rpms there and check and compare steam pattern.
pegscraper Posted September 15, 2007 #3 Posted September 15, 2007 Since you have a laser temp gauge, trying aiming it at the exhaust pipes just after the heads and see if you have a cold one. You'll have to get right on the pipes themselves, not just on the heat shields. If that's not it, you may just be jetted too rich.
