Red light changer

browsing the parts and accessories on e-bay and saw a red light changer for bikes. I had heard of them before but never thought much about it. The add says you mount under bike and it disrupts the electromagnetic sensor enough to trip the red light to green. I,ve never had a problem getting that left turn green arrow to trip for me. Are they saying it,ll trip any sooner than normal? Don,t alot of intersections have photo sensors now?[cheaper to install]. Do they help if your not centered on the magnetic sensor?. Or is this just another '' deer whistle'', sounds good but don,t waste your money. Just curious

Hi Alan,your sensors must be more sensitive then the ones here in Wisconsin...

We can hardly ever get them to trip..

Two buddies have tried the E-bay sensors with mixed results....

Another buddy installed a big magnet under his bike and that seems to work pretty good at triping the signals...

 

For those not aware,ABATE of Wis. helped pass into law in Wisconsin The "Roadway users responsibility Act 466...This was passed in 2006.

346.37(1)©4 A motorcycle facing a vehicle actuated red signal for 45 seconds shall yield right of way and may cautiously proceed through the intersection..

I wasn't having much luck at tripping the sensor with the '83. So while kicking tires at our local Beemer Shop with HDTR and BuddyRich I got the hard sell from the service mgr on one of those magnets. $14 bucks so said what the 'h' and bought it. Zip tied it to the center stand, and now I rarely hang up on a left turn. Some of the older side street LH turns don't have the oval groove sensor yet and you can wait forever.... I just run them. I think the DMV code says you can after 3 cycles. After one I say screw it, and go.....

Had one of the "green light trigger" magnets on my feejer..worked pretty well on getting otherwise non-responsive lights to change. (Forgot about it when I bought the RSV though... Gonna pick up another one of these days!

Instead of wasting money try killing the engine and then restarting. The magnetic field generated by the starter will usually trigger the light. If that doesn't work, you can drop the kick stand on or close to one of the buried lines and that will sometimes trigger the light too.

If you want a red light changer for FREE simply look to see if you have a old computer hard drive laying around. tear it apart and you will find 1-2 of those super strong magnets in the head motor. Rip them out and stick them to your bike.
