Smitty161 Posted July 8, 2009 #1 Posted July 8, 2009 I may regret asking.....but here it goes. What do you all reccomend that I squirt into this zerk fitting on an 83VR.
Brake Pad Posted July 8, 2009 #2 Posted July 8, 2009 That sure as hell looks like a grease fitting to me:doh:
Mariner Fan Posted July 8, 2009 #3 Posted July 8, 2009 That sure as hell looks like a grease fitting to me:doh: Me too!
Smitty161 Posted July 8, 2009 Author #4 Posted July 8, 2009 DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Regular old grease it is then. Dislike getting older...brain farts a hell of a lot more.
mbrood Posted July 8, 2009 #5 Posted July 8, 2009 Along those lines... why do they look at me funny at the parts store when I ask for a quart of "710" ??? It says it RIGHT on it !!! http://product-image.tradeindia.com/00340292/b/0/Filler-Engine-Oil-Cap.jpg There's some here that will say they haven't had a "moment"... but they be fibbin' !!!
ventureohio Posted July 8, 2009 #6 Posted July 8, 2009 Ya know I just saw mine yesterday and was wondering the same thing. The foil tag right in front of it says "use Hyphoid oil #80" ??????
timgray Posted July 8, 2009 #7 Posted July 8, 2009 Isn't the zerk fitting there actually "fake" as in it really does not lube the splines but misses it?
Dano Posted July 8, 2009 #8 Posted July 8, 2009 Don't waste your time on that fitting, all you'll do is to increase your clean-up time when you pull the pumpkin and drive shaft to properly lube the driveshaft splines! You could pull that fitting and install it on your rear suspension shock links where it'll actually do some good!
MasterGuns Posted July 8, 2009 #9 Posted July 8, 2009 If you squeeze in 20 lbs of grease you won't miss. Isn't the zerk fitting there actually "fake" as in it really does not lube the splines but misses it?
Smitty161 Posted July 8, 2009 Author #10 Posted July 8, 2009 20lbs.???? I need to go out and buy more grease!!!! When I broke apart the housing and greased the shaft that area was dry and clean. I will leave it this way. Thanx everyone .
fixit3546 Posted July 9, 2009 #11 Posted July 9, 2009 Nothing, It is a useless part. Best to take the driveline apart and grease both ends liberally.
jasonm. Posted July 9, 2009 #12 Posted July 9, 2009 that's the fitting that the 1200 has. They copied the 1100 gold wing design. BIG mistake with 50% more hp. Redesign on the 1300 solved many issues. USE Moly grease if you must. YES, a whole tube from a grease gun, may get a bit in there... Otherwise disassemble at every tire change and grease per what the manual says.
Condor Posted July 9, 2009 #13 Posted July 9, 2009 I may regret asking.....but here it goes. What do you all reccomend that I squirt into this zerk fitting on an 83VR. It's a joke. A design engineer at Yamaha decided to put it there to confuse people. He doesn't work there anymore......
