Don't waste your time on that fitting, all you'll do is to increase your clean-up time when you pull the pumpkin and drive shaft to properly lube the driveshaft splines! You could pull that fitting and install it on your rear suspension shock links where it'll actually do some good!

If you squeeze in 20 lbs of grease you won't miss.

Isn't the zerk fitting there actually "fake" as in it really does not lube the splines but misses it?

20lbs.???? I need to go out and buy more grease!!!!

When I broke apart the housing and greased the shaft that area was dry and clean. I will leave it this way.

Thanx everyone .:smile5:

that's the fitting that the 1200 has. They copied the 1100 gold wing design. BIG mistake with 50% more hp. Redesign on the 1300 solved many issues. USE Moly grease if you must. YES, a whole tube from a grease gun, may get a bit in there...:innocent-emoticon: Otherwise disassemble at every tire change and grease per what the manual says.

I may regret asking.....but here it goes. What do you all reccomend that I squirt into this zerk fitting on an 83VR.

It's a joke. A design engineer at Yamaha decided to put it there to confuse people. He doesn't work there anymore...... :sign20:
