frankc Posted July 7, 2009 #1 Posted July 7, 2009 Hello, Hope everyone is enjoying the summer! I'm about to change the plugs in my 2008 Venture for the first time and was wondering if the stock plugs are the best choice? Is there a better spark plug i could use? If so, what would you suggest? I dont do alot of interstate riding, just the local state roads. Thanks and ride safe! Frank

frogmaster Posted July 7, 2009 #3 Posted July 7, 2009 NGK - Iridium use the NGK to NGK Iridium conversion chart. These Spark Plugs: WILL NOT..... give more power or better fuel mileage (same as stock). WILL........... start faster and reduce warm up time by 50% or better. I use NGK IRIDIUMS in all my Yamaha's (2 each Outboards, UTV-Rhino-660, Subaru Forester- 2004) I will be replacing NGK to NGK-Iridiums in my Toyota Highlander 2008 & RSV-2008 when they are scheduled to be done soon.
Jethroish Posted July 7, 2009 #4 Posted July 7, 2009 How many miles are on the plugs you are changing? Just curious because over the weekend, I checked plugs in my 2007 RSV, with 24,000 miles and they still have the right color to them, are still within gap tolerance, and the bike runs fine.
RedRider Posted July 7, 2009 #5 Posted July 7, 2009 FYI - Save the money and purchase the plugs from the local auto parts store rather than the Stealer. Same part number and everything. RR
Yammer Dan Posted July 7, 2009 #6 Posted July 7, 2009 FYI - Save the money and purchase the plugs from the local auto parts store rather than the Stealer. Same part number and everything. RR Stealers charge twice as much for same plug??
Guest seuadr Posted July 7, 2009 #7 Posted July 7, 2009 Stealers charge twice as much for same plug?? noooooooo. a stealer would NEVER mark up a common mantinence part 300% or more! i mean, obviously, the last filter i bought from the autoparts store for 5 dollars (with the oring for the filter cover in it ) the one from the dealer was obviously superior at 9.99 plus an extra 5.99 for the oring
TexasFlyer Posted July 7, 2009 #8 Posted July 7, 2009 Auto parts stores are indeed the better bet - example: Suzuki M50 oil filter at dealer 12.99... same filter at Walmart 6.94 --- important to do the research first, then buy wise.
GaThumper Posted July 7, 2009 #9 Posted July 7, 2009 I prefer NGK plugs for all my bikes and just bought a set of DPR8EA-9 for my '01 from Advance Auto Parts for $1.99 each. I didn't check the price at the dealer, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was $4-$5. The Iridium plug (DPR8EIX-9) was quite a bit higher so I went with the standard plug.

Thanks and ride safe! Frank I replaced mine with the Iridium plug only because they last 3-4 times longer and are a pain to change, remove the tank, remove the "dog bone" one side at a time. I also did all the fluids, oil, filters etc. Mileage went from 38 to 41. Paid $5 something for them at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
