big mike Posted July 6, 2009 #1 Posted July 6, 2009 I have a black sooty build up on my left front cooling fin on the engine.(while sitting on bike.) It is on the upper part of the fins........well I guess the best way to describe it is a picture. Has anyone seen this before, and if so does anyone know what it is? Thanks for any help, Big Mike
Redneck Posted July 6, 2009 #2 Posted July 6, 2009 Probably an exhaust leak. Check the exhaust pipe bolts
V7Goose Posted July 6, 2009 #4 Posted July 6, 2009 (edited) Looks like probably a leak in the rear of the valve cover gasket to me, but possibly fuel leaking down from the tank valve and dripping off the gas line. What you can see in the photo is just the fake fin covers, so the leak has to be somewhere above them and dripping down. Just remove that cover and look up in there with a flashlight to see where the source is. Really not too many options other than the valve cover. Goose Edited July 6, 2009 by V7Goose
calperin Posted July 6, 2009 #5 Posted July 6, 2009 Mike, It seems like burned oil. Has to be a gasket. Sorry. Carlos :crying:
