black sooty build up.....

I have a black sooty build up on my left front cooling fin on the engine.(while sitting on bike.) It is on the upper part of the fins........well I guess the best way to describe it is a picture. Has anyone seen this before, and if so does anyone know what it is?

Probably an exhaust leak. Check the exhaust pipe bolts

My guess would be a leaking valve gasket.

Looks like probably a leak in the rear of the valve cover gasket to me, but possibly fuel leaking down from the tank valve and dripping off the gas line.

 

What you can see in the photo is just the fake fin covers, so the leak has to be somewhere above them and dripping down. Just remove that cover and look up in there with a flashlight to see where the source is. Really not too many options other than the valve cover.

Hey buddy,I believe that is caused by trying to keep up with the 1st Gens...:rotfl:

 

It looks like a leaky valve cover gasket.......
