I just recommended cutting open the filter because usually the filter is on the return side and not the supply side in a hydraulic system.

true in maney cases but in this case it is in the pickup line

If it still feels sloppy with the engine off, then I would think it would have to be a mechanical/linkage issue, and not the pump, as the pump isn't turning with engine off.

I was mowing a couple of weeks ago when suddenly the left lever seemed to lose pressure. It still works and I can use it but while you feel decent pressure on the right lever when you move it forward and backwards, the left lever has almost no feedback/pressure. It is also slow to respond. The left wheel does work in forward and reverse but doesn't seem to have much torque. On a long straight run, the steering seems to work OK but if I am turning on a hill or something, the left doesn't seem to have near enough torque.

Don

This question is not for me, it is for those smarter than i on hydraulicks (see i cant even spell it)

But when i am diagnosing a problem with in the realm of my capabilities, it helps to know............"Exactly what were you doing when this happened?"

ie. traveling forward/backward, changing direction, turning....

were you moving the handle or did it just go limp in your hand, or did you notice it say.......after you moved the handle?

DAMPENER, Hydraulic

OK...so now I feel pretty stupid. uh....THANKS though. :) The bolt had come out of one end of that dampener. I WOULD like to say that it is VERY WELL HIDDEN. :confused24:

... even not running, the left side just almost flops back and forth but the right side has pressure to moving it back and forth.

I know nothing about them but it seems to me that if the problem was with the pump or motor it wouldn't feel different when turned off. I'd be chasing the valve.

You bet..and thanks for all the input. Even though it turned out to be a 30 cent nut instead of a $500.00 pump, I still learned a lot from all the posts. Thanks much to all. :thumbsup2:
