Aussie Annie Posted July 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2009 Hey BommerCPO The U.S. Navy is in town!!!! Party time in Fremantle :dancefool: The USS George Washington is out in Gage Roads, and she's a Big 'Un Her escort is the USS Cowpen. I've never seen such a humungous ship !! Do you know that my first ever pen-pals in my teen years were two U.S. navy guys. Took them home and mum fed them well, and they enjoyed "home hospitality" for a while. Still have their letters stored somewhere, and a deck of cards we used to use( is in the cupboard.) One of them(Jim Leahy) even came back for a visit when he got out of the Navy! Back then the officers and sailors used to enjoy going to a family home for a few days, instead of night clubs, getting drunk and you know- what- else. Whenever a ship was in town, the Aussie navy would do an announcment on the radio, for people to attend the dance get-together in Fremantle to meet the U.S. guys. I've even had lunch in the mess with everyone, and got lost going to the head !!
Monty Posted July 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2009 I thought carriers were banned from Australia? They were when I was in, because of some trouble I heard. I have been on the Cowpens. She was being built right next to mine. CG63 I believe.
Aussie Annie Posted July 6, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted July 6, 2009 Boy, Am I angry!! Some U.S. sailors had spent the evening up in Perth, and were waiting to catch the train back to Fremantle when some a$$-wipes attacked them and one ended up with a bad wound on the arm. Young morons who need a "swift kick up the kyber" and a little time in the military!! Bring back consciption to the army--YAH!
Dano Posted July 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2009 But how did the a$$-wipes come out? I'm sure a couple of them got what they deserved!
Aussie Annie Posted July 6, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted July 6, 2009 I dang well hope so!! I think it was "gang mentality" you know, really brave when there's a big bunch of 'em--but gutless on their own. No doubt the U.S. boys were under order's to be on their best behaviour while in a foreign port.
