Re-read my post..***********************************

it was not a local or a chapter problem.

It is with the president of the entire disorganization alan cease at headquarters. The fat cat that gets your money!!

Not the local people, heck!! The local poeple are the ones i'm fighting for for cryin out loud!!

OK Jerry I will call them. If it doesn't cost then I would be pretty foolish not to at least give them a try. There are 2 semi local chapters, Niagara falls which is 1 1/2 hrs away, and Watkins Glen which is a couple of hours away.

Red Rider, unless the patch is mandatory then I could care less if I have one or not. I'm just looking for events to fill in the holes from Venturerider events.

Hopefully I get our RSV back tomorow or Tuesday but it doesn't matter, it's supposed to rain all week anyway...

Its too bad you can't ride with the local chapters more than a few times without having to pay the crooks at national. There are good folks in the local chapters. Hey I know!! Lets all go visit a STAR chapter, hand out VentureRider cards and tell them if they want to ride, eat and be part of the BEST family on earth come on over!!! and as they leave they can tell Allen Cease to stick it:whistling::biker:

Very diverse feelings being shown on this post. I have been a STAR member, officer, and national officer over the last eight years. You will get out of STAR what you put into STAR. Local membership is great and I belong to two chapters and associate with at least ten more. The local chapters all have different guidelines, meeting times and ride schedules. Whatever kind of motorcycle you ride is acceptable and welcome. Just like here on VR there is ribbing about bikes but all in good fun. The friends you meet are priceless!

I have been a member for almost 4 years. I have little use for the larger organization, for me its all about the local chapter. If you have a good one, you will love it and vice versa. Just my 2 cents.

Folks, let's please keep it nice. I too had my own issues with Alan Cease and that is the main reason that I am not a member now but there are many great folks involved with the local chapters. Chances are, you'll never have to deal with Alan. The best advice given here is to check out your local chapter if you want to and you may find them to be a great group of folks. In fact, that's probably exactly what you'll find. Let's please keep this thread respectful though. No reason for any name calling at all.

I met a group of riders from the local chapter here they seemed like a nice group

Very Friendly I spoke with them for awhile

About a dozen of them were down at the Iron Pony for Yamaha of Columbus grand opening

The Idea of paying for one national membership to join a local group made no sense.

To formal for me ---- The people I met were very nice -- just not for me

I asked if they did any trips together an ice cream run seemed to about it

the local star chapters are just plain old folks like us. belong to quite a few clubs over the years. and been to alot of corny meetings. i found it to be more fun just to get together and do random rides like our meet and eats. most of the organized groups around here don't do the motorcycle thing. their i dea of a ride is a 20 mile poker run or over to joe blows bike and car show and back maybe 50 miles. there are alot of nice folks in these groups but they don't seem to know how to put on a real motorcycle get together. to busy reading minutes from the last months meeting and trying to look cool in their uniforms, while most of the folks wish they would adjourn the meeting so they can go home. i'll just hang with this bunch. we know what riding is all about. not that there is anything wrong with organized meetings if thats your thing. just not my bag. :2133:

Freebird and several others have it right, Star is about the local chapters. Yes, there is a national and several good regional events, but the local group is what makes it great.

I bought my '86 VR about three years ago and before it arrived on a friends pickup truck from out east, I was a member here and at "The Venturers". I found that both offered similar things and most people are in both, but there are interesting differences :) Then I met Ray, the President of Star 242 (Central IL) through these groups.

I attended a meeting, was instantly accepted, they helped me get up to speed as I hadn't ridden in many years. Those Star people are now some of my best friends. 242 was for some years (before me) just a few "buds" that didn't do much. New leadership has had the chapter grow a LOT and we ride several times a month when weather permits.

We just finished a big maintenance day where several people saved hundreds of dollars on service and had a great day to boot.

I have been to my first regional Star events and am going to another in August.

There are some stinker local clubs, and if you find some, look for another chapter. The people here (Venture Rider) and elsewhere on the internet don't have so many local events, and that is the main reason to be a STAR member, for the local aspect and rides (if your chapter is a good one). And like our chapter, it may not have been so great once, but is doing well now. that may change in the future, local clubs ebb and flow, for better or worse all the time. Even the one chapter that was mentioned that was so bad, may be better now, or started up as a new chapter, don't discount anything till you try it out!

I am also a member of GWRRA even if I don't own a Gold Wing, and have friends in the area Kawasaki group, and I sometimes ride with the local BMW group. Have ridden with some Harley guys. Find the right groups, and they don't care what you ride, just that you are a decent person and share the hobby.

I like that Star wants people to follow the law of the land, speed limits, drinking and driving/riding etc. If you don't like those rules, then find another group.

I find the Star membership worth it, (although their web site is lacking much compared to here and elsewhere), and if you don't want to buy a patch, don't buy a patch. Some of our people wear all sorts of patches, and some wear none.

Certainly I feel membership here and with the Venturers is also worth it, and gladly pay the fees.

My 8.5 cents (sorry about the length).

don, you make a good point. as far as the venture riders not having many local meets, you are right. this is one of my pet peeves with this group. i love to go to meets. there are always the same few that put on the meets year after year. we have over 7000 members. meets are not that hard to put on. i would like to have more meets in my area that i could attend, where i would'nt have to go a long way, and just let my hair down and relax. i can't afford to do them all, nor do i have enough time. people have to step up to the plate. it is really alot of fun putting one on. i and alot of others who do this would be more than glad to help. you don't have to have a local chapter to have fun. i have many freinds on this group that i see on a regular basis. and ride with. when i get cabin fever i dream up some kind of meet and the people come. i had people from canada ,texas, iowa, virginia, etc., at my st. charles meet this year. you put the meet together and the folks will be there. :2133:

Yes, you must own a Yamaha to be the president

Chimeing in.

Only 1 person went to the last Star days. & he did'nt go to the 2007 chattanooga rally

it was voted on, that the national didn't really do anything for the local clubs.

they started out wih a bang, when they spoke about National, but dropped the ball, on all the chapters that made it happen. they basically prased them selfs, for doing a great job, of putting the event together. and never said Thank You, to the people for supporting the cause.

they mad a big show, with the parade of motorcycle riding down the road behind the food truck. (Which, they unloaded, and gave everyone a box to strap to the bikes, for show and tell. at the end of the parade, I expected to help out hundreds of cars, loading food into there trunks.....

THREE car showed up..... what a F******G waist of time:doh:

I have been at more than two dozen FTC food drops, and there were hundreds of people in line needing help. Locally we help a charity house and unload the whole trailer, break out the contents and carry it into the pantry for later use. This trailer load will last two weeks.

For me this is worthwhile. Where your satisfactions lie are up to you.

As said before if you don't want a patch, then don't buy it. It's not mandatory. Some people have the patch for this forum and others don't.

We have members that want to only wear the smaller patches in the front and that's ok too.

Indy chapter has raised funds for 2 semi trailers full of food for the local Feed The Children affiliate in 2008. I went to the 1st food drop. Before we got everything unloaded there were cars already lined up. The 2nd one was really intended to get the items in the storage area.

Regardless at how many show up the day of the food drop, the items will be there for families in need, which is what it is all about.

I rode with the Indy Star chapter 144 one time. I will always remember that ride well. It was in March of 2006. The temp was 25 that morning a good test for the heated vest and gloves I bought the fall before. I had a good time and the members where a nice bunch of people. I know then they plan a ride once a month. The only reason I did not keep up with it, is life was jsut to busy for me. My dad had a stroke about 7 years ago mom never learn to drive. So I have to help them get around and take care of there place.

The family always should come first. The motorcycle family will understand.

Wow! Old thread!!

For those who care, I decided to save the $50 as I had no activity with them. Like Ventureriders sooooo much more!!!

So true. I live in San Antonio TX and their are prob. about a dozen or more VRider members in south-central TX. I to wish we could meet more often, usually it looks like most of the fun meetings are adhoc, like when a fellow VentureRider travels to another area and post his travels a M&E forms very quickly which is a good thing. I just wish it could be done more often.

I am not a lonely rider I am also a Road Lt. for my club and we have rides almost every weekend, even in the winter, hehe. But we all ride different bikes and I some times would like to ride with others with the same brand bikes.

I guess I just crave more rides than my club can give me.

Is that so bad??:scratchchin:
