Iowawegian Posted June 26, 2009 #1 Posted June 26, 2009 The hubby and I are heading to Glacier then up to Banff mid July. We are camping so space is limited on what we bring. I always wear my chaps anytime the weather is below 80 degrees F. If I can get by leaving them home, it would save a little room. Is the weather up there warm enough to get by without them? Thanks Deb
sarges46 Posted June 26, 2009 #2 Posted June 26, 2009 Yes and no. The temps can and do get very very warm....80's 90's. They also can get quite cool in the mountains,,,50's 60's. If it was me and my warmth depended on chaps...I would take them.
Iowawegian Posted June 26, 2009 Author #3 Posted June 26, 2009 You helped me out. No way I ride in 50 & 60 degree weather without them!!! Call me a weenie but I get 9 months of feezing winter here and I hate the cold! Thanks for your help. Just means fewer pairs of clean socks I get to take!!
Namron Posted June 26, 2009 #4 Posted June 26, 2009 Lets just say, if we have above normal weather, you will not need your chaps. And only in the late afternoon. Norm

Hate the cold as well. But cant/wont wear chaps. Dont like the feeling of being restricted in the legs. Marilyn rarely rides without hers on, even in the heat. Socks are cheap...just buy a new package when the others start to walk out of the tent when you take em off!

Thanks Deb If youre going thru Glacier you may need them at altitude like on the going to the sun Hiway, there was still snow there the last time was there in August. Calgary is about the same climate, but usually warm sunny days in summer but cool or cold nights. Here is a 14 day graph of the weather in Calgary keep in mind that 21c is about 72F, http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=fourteenday&placecode=caab0049&ref=wxeyewx14dayv2 Here is the Banff 14 day sliding forecast, I usually find its quite a bit cooler even though its only a bit over an hour from Calgary, I guess its the altitude http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=fourteenday&placecode=caab0016&ref=wxeyewx14dayv2 Brian I may be running thru Banff and Calgary area after touring BC after Kruisn the Kootenays, if you want to see if we can get together, shoot me a pm and we will see if our schedules meetup.
