Steve S Posted June 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2009 I've run the ME 880s for 6 years now on 3 different bikes and have yet to have a tire to fail. I like the ride and the handling they give me. My riding buddy as run several brands over the years and gets better service out of the Metzlers. Just my 2 cents worth. BradT Posted June 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 26, 2009 Have heard they are a good tire but it appears that they do not hold up on a Venture. Not sure why but saw and heard of too many failures, and personally I would not chance it. Brad
footsie Posted June 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2009 I have the best luck with Avons, and they make radials in most sizes now. Best prices I have found are at bikebandit.com
ddoggma Posted June 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2009 All tires can have a bad one here and there. The metz have the most bad stories , I have not heard of a Continental or a Michelin having problems.I run Kenda Kruz tires and like em. But somebody had one peel on them recently. But, like I said any tire can fail its a crap shoot.
StarQ Posted June 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 26, 2009 I put Avon Venom X tires on my '84 VR a number of years ago. Rode about a mile, leaned into the first turn and said outloud, "WOW!" I always like how the VR handled like a sport bike, the Avons made it even better. Tire choice depends on how you ride, how you load the bike and what you want the bike to feel like. Avons did the trick for me, I've heard good stories about other brands, also. Oh yeah, I have been in horrific rain storms, one where trucks were throwing sheets of water over me. The tires never slid.
Yammer Dan Posted June 26, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 26, 2009 Avons handle better than anything. I've head less scare stories about Dunlop 491 than any I think.
Skid Posted June 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2009 First Gen choice of tires, hands down the Dunlop Elite II's.... If you can't find them then the Elite 3's.
saddlebum Posted June 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 26, 2009 Dunlop elite II is my choice tried the Avons didn't like them went back to the Dunlop elite II. they may ride a little harder than the avons but they feel much more secure speacially in the turns.
