bmxndad Posted September 8, 2007 #1 Posted September 8, 2007 1999 RSV How does a guy make the rear blinkers act as another running light on these things? Thanks for any help. Ross
High Plains Drifter Posted September 8, 2007 #2 Posted September 8, 2007 There are several good kits on the market. Check out Cruiser Customizing http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/ they have a couple to choose from and I've heard that Harley Davidson also makes a pretty good one. Jeff
Gold Rush Posted September 8, 2007 #3 Posted September 8, 2007 http://www.thisoldtractor.com/gtbender/turn_signals_as_running_lights.htm#a_technique_using_one_single-element_bulb_in_each_turn_signal Here's a link to a site that might help you. Depending on where you live/ride you might want to re-think this idea. I didn't realize it was illegal to have amber lights on constant in the rear.....:whistling:
High Plains Drifter Posted September 9, 2007 #4 Posted September 9, 2007 . . . Depending on where you live/ride you might want to re-think this idea. I didn't realize it was illegal to have amber lights on constant in the rear..... One of the kits that Cruiser Customizing sells is an LED set up that switches from red to amber and back. Ride Safe! Jeff
Starrider04 Posted September 9, 2007 #5 Posted September 9, 2007 I have the red LED's that mount in the lens and still use the same bulb for the turn signals.
MrRadi8 Posted September 9, 2007 #6 Posted September 9, 2007 1999 RSV How does a guy make the rear blinkers act as another running light on these things? Thanks for any help. Ross http://customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm Dynamic clusters. Easy to wire in and replace and a hell of a lot brighter on the rear when combined with the LED taillight.
Black Owl Posted September 9, 2007 #7 Posted September 9, 2007 Not sure what the 99 RSV has for rear turn signals. If they are using a lamp socket and 1156 lamp.... you can switch out the 1156 socket for an 1157 socket. As stated, not sure exactly what they are using, but switching from an 1156 to an 1157 lamp socket is a fairly simple process. You will need to solder a ground to the 1157 socket and splice into the tail light wiring (that should be the blue wire) to get constant power to the low illumination filament. If you run into no problemts you are looking at a 2 hour job and less than $15.00 in parts/wiring.

High Plains Drifter Posted September 10, 2007 #9 Posted September 10, 2007 I have had a KRISS module on my 2000 RSV and removed it and put it on my 05 RSV. Here's their site but this looks like a newer version. This is a neat system as are some of the others listed here. However, after doing some checking, GOLD RUSH is right. In most states it's illegal to run amber run or brake lights (on the rear of a bike) and illegal to run red turn signals on newer model bikes. Read carefully the description on these light kits and make sure that they comply with your local laws. One of the kits listed here has a disclaimer in their discription that says they are only legal for "show and off-road use." That wouldn't do much good on my bike! Ride safe! Drifter
concours Posted September 10, 2007 #10 Posted September 10, 2007 I have the turn signal conversion kit from here... http://www.electricalconnection.com/ which retains the amber bulb for turn sig, but adds a ring of RED LED's at HALF brightness for running lights, and also changes to VERY BRIGHT RED LED's for auxiliary stop lights as well. I recommend it highly. I've always used the SOS Priority Lights in the past but this rocks way better. All trying to stay alive in Boston traffic at rush hour.
