Wife and I were out last weekend going on a round trip ride of about 100 miles. We were at a red light at an intersection near our place shortly after leaving the house. The light turned green and I started out to make a left turn. I noticed a car coming from the left on the crossing street and figured it would stop. Luckily I kept my eye on the car as it went through the red light and intersection at about 40 mph (speed limit is 35). I hit the brakes; my wife who didn't see the car, slid forward and our helmets hit. We came to a stop about 20 feet from where we would have been clobbered. The driver appeared to be an old man who must have been startled when he saw me start out as he was looking up at the light as he went through to see what color it was. We did our trip, but I was much more careful at interesctions than I normally am, and I am normally pretty careful. Too bad no cops around then. Not all elderly drivers are bad drivers, but there are a lot of people on the road who shouldn't be there anymore. We were lucky that day. Be careful out there!!!

Dave, I was just about to do a post on my adventure during a lunch ride today. As I was coming back to work, I go under a bridge that is Interstate 26. There is a light on the other side where the exit ramp comes to the street I was on. I had the green light and this guy comes down the ramp and makes a turn on red with out even looking. I hit my brakes and the airhorns and did not let off them. It startled him so bad that he ran up on the sidewalk and stopped. I went by him and he followed me at about 5mph under the speed limit, but would not pass on the two lane one way street. When I had gone about 10 blocks and put my signal light on to turn right, he slowly passed me and cautiously waved at me.

I do believe I got his attention and hope he thinks about me when he gets his front end realigned where he ran up on the curb.

I had a cage back out of a parking space right in front of me Yesterday. :yikes: I had my eye on him and expected it, so I was able to avoid him. He never saw me.

He heard me though. I love Stebel! :thumbsup2:

We all have made some stupid mistakes but we don't make a habit of it.

How many have had a caliper lock up on a car. I was following a bike in a Ford at about 40 or 50 mph when the traffic stopped. I just touched the brakes and caliper decided to just lock up. Tire on that wheel started squawling all the way up behind this Dude must have been over 50 ft. He was off the bike with sidestand down facing me by the time I got stopped. talk about embarrassed. I explained it to him and he got a laugh out of it after he quit shaking.
