As a newbie I ask basic questions, sorry if this is already answered somewhere but I could not find it easily.

I have a '89 venture royale 1300, what oil should I use? I live in south dakota and do some cold weather driving but mostly drive on warmer days.

thanks

Hello Paru,

First off how many miles on your bike?

Reason I ask is most older bikes with mid or high miles tend to leak with syn.oil.

I myself use Amsoil 10w40 which is full syn.oil along with some others out there,my beast has just turned 75,000 miles which is low miles for these motors but its been with amsoil & mobil 1 most of its life.

Members here use and get good reviews on these below.

mobil 1

rotella T Diesel oil

castrol

Valvoline racing

others will chime in and give you some ideas as well

good luck and welcome to the family

Mine has 75,000 miles on Synthetic oil Amsoil 10w40 & Mobil 1. 15w50.Synthetic oil works best for my bike ,better shifting - cooler temp - smoother ride.

I changed my clucthes at 65,000 - maintance only, and the ones I took out looked just like the new ones still in great shape.Matter of fact I still have my old ones in the garage as back up if I ever need them.

But like I said everybody has their choice of oil.My brother retired his bike with over 250,000 miles useing castrol 20w50 dino oil.The main thing is maintance on the motor and you will do just fine.
