barend Posted June 21, 2009 #1 Posted June 21, 2009 My '83 Royale did not come with a CB and/or intercom but I would like to add one. I have a OEM working radio without headset jack. What would I need to install this on my bike? Does anyone have this and want to part with it? Thanks!
bongobobny Posted June 21, 2009 #2 Posted June 21, 2009 If you have the OEM radio then you DO have the intercom, and it is just a matter of plugging in the cables for the headsets. The jacks are located on the amplifier box bolted onto the inner fairing frame. If you take off the upper fairing dash piece you will see the box with a big rubber cover on it. lift up the rubber cover and you will see the jacks where both headset cables plug into as well as where the CB unit plugs into. You can buy the cables from Siera and other places I'm sure. The CB is a different story. The '83 - '85 used a different style CB which is a 2 piece unit. The '86 up uses a 1 piece unit. If you use the '86 up you have to switch the dash piece and the class controller. Fleabay is ytour best bet but the earlier units ae far and few between...
barend Posted June 21, 2009 Author #3 Posted June 21, 2009 If I just need to plug the cables in, then how does it operate? Inline push to talk, voice activated, handlebar mounted PTT switch?
muffinman Posted June 21, 2009 #4 Posted June 21, 2009 Bare end What all do you have for the factory radio? If you have the box's that go into the fairing and the top radio plate you have an Ic. As far as the CB goes I have the wiring schematic for the power side. The interconnect cable goes between the Cb and the amplifier with a 6 pin din cable all the cables have 90 dergree ends. I added an 86 cb to my 83 4 years ago and have had no problems.Give me a call if you still have any questions. Jeff
ddoggma Posted June 22, 2009 #5 Posted June 22, 2009 I too have the same situation with my bike. Over the winter I want to hookup a CB and headsets. So I'll be watching to see how you do. Hoping to do the same. Good luck. Saw a couple CB and cables on fleabay this weekend. But I dont know what I need yet. Or if its worth the trouble to mess with a CB. Or, just go with something else:nanner:
