Since installing the Dyna, I've not hit the RL yet! The OEM revs were limited to 93-95 mph before it kicked in. But now I have it set to 8000 and I've noticed 105 at 7500 rpm (and climbing!) before I chickened out. That can really get the heart pumping at that RPM and speed. I'm happy! shouldn't have to try it again!! Unless some hapless HD rider wants to find out what kinda bike I ride. Man!! Is that fun!! BTW, luv my new Barons Tach!! Glad I've got it now! Brian

Hey, it's your bike and maybe I'm just too cautious but I set my Dyna on 7250. The instructions said something about keeping it to 7000 or 7250 unless you install heavier valve springs.

True true.. I'm not sure if the V4 is anything like the VTwin on the VStar but not using valve springs when running higher revs like that is risking valve float which is such not a good thing to an engine.. erk..

Changed my battery this AM and tuned the Dyna down to 7500 RPMs. Local tuner says this motor will be safe there. Not that I'm in that range very often but every so often it's nice to know I've got it. I don't normally go over 6500 since I have the tach now.

Oh dood, it's like it shouldn't be allowed to be so much fun hehe

Keep it up and you won't get near as many miles from that rear tire. :Bunny:

the ventures 99-present and 05-present tour deluxe has the double springs and can take the higher rpms. i have an 01 standard royal which has the single valve springs and have mine set on 7000 rpms and never had any problems at 67,000 miles on it now. i run it hard most of the time since i've had it. SO GO AHEAD AND HAVE SOME FUN OUT THERE BUT BE CAREFUL!!

When accelerating hard and fast yesterday, I tried to reach the rev limiter to see and feel where it was, I was bound and determined to feel the 'tripping of the engine' that indicates the rev limiter kicking in.. but a quick glance to the speedo I spotting the engine oil light coming on and go off as I shifter, though never having reached the rev limiter..

Having just done an oil change, I wondered if I was low, but the fluid level in the sight glass shows half up the glass..

When the oil is only half up the sight glass your gettin an oil level light on hard acceleration. You will notice it most in first in second. Its not the rev limit its the low oil level light. Your oil is fine. What's happening is as you accelerate the oil is moving back in the pan and the oil level indicator light comes on. Notice I said "oil level". Its a little bug in their system. Take it to 3/4 up the sight glass and it will stop. The bike has plenty of oil in it at 1/2 , its just the hard acceleration and it moves off the sender unit and the bike thinks its not enough oil.I run it at 3/4 up the sight glass and it doesn't do that.

When you do hit the limit the bike will miss and the oil light will flash.

Good point of observation.. I rechecked my fluid level and topped it up to the 3/4 mark which resolved the issue.. if nothing else, simply just eased my mind when hammering the throttle now.. =) No red light means go go go!!!

I run my oil at 3/4 on the window. No level light.

If I am just enjoying a nice aggressive ride - I like to run

around 30 in 2nd

70 in third.

and around 80 in 4th.

All are fun starting points. you can gain some really quick jumps that way. but compared to the twins - it sounds like we are really winding out.

As I read through this thread, the numbers for the rev limiter and the speed you guys shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd is incredible. I can just imagine how much screaming the Venture is doing when running 40 to 50 mph on 1st. For me, I don't know if I can ever reach rev limiter. My hard riding shift points would be 1st - 25 to 30 mph; 2nd - 30 to 40 maybe 45 mph; 3rd - 40/45 to 60;...at 60, I usually can just go to 5th gear...:scratchchin:

I just love the sound of a screaming Venture. Ride Safe.

The bike is really still pulling strong when the rev limiter kicks in. Remember this is basically the same engine in the V-max and I think its running upwards of 9k. So what's really fun is hittin 3dr gear and taking it to 85. The bike just takes off in 3rd. If I can't beat them in 3rd I probably won't.
