BigBoyinMS Posted June 18, 2009 #1 Posted June 18, 2009 I was sitting on the bike for a minute after getting to work this morning when I discovered that you can use the ignition lock to lock the forks when turned to the right. Why? They sit at such an upright angle when locked to the left that I couldn't imagine locking to the right and walking away from it. I just can't reason why Yammi would go to the effort of drilling an extra hole.
bongobobny Posted June 18, 2009 #2 Posted June 18, 2009 I personaly like the bike to have some sort of lean when I leave it as opposed to being upright just in case a big wind comes along or something and causes the bike to bo over the other way. Yes, I have seen it happen but with a lot lighter bike...

When I turn my forks to the right, the bike not only is less vertical, but the contact points of the triangle are spread out more, making the bike even more stable. Would you want to lock the forks turned to the left instead? RandyA
Squeeze Posted June 18, 2009 #5 Posted June 18, 2009 .... Would you want to lock the forks turned to the left instead? RandyA That's the only Way to lock up the '09 Max. Stupid ... I checked to drill another Hole on the left Side of the Fork Yoke, but, there's not enough Meat on the right Side, whereas the left Side has extra Material casted for this Purpose.
Freebird Posted June 18, 2009 #6 Posted June 18, 2009 LOL....at FIRST read...I thought you just called Randy STUPID. Had to read it again to understand you you were REALLY saying. I THINK.
Yammer Dan Posted June 18, 2009 #7 Posted June 18, 2009 Things that make you go... hmmmmm? Prune Juice is Great!!!!!
Squeeze Posted June 18, 2009 #8 Posted June 18, 2009 Oh sorry, i wanted to second Randy's Statement about how stupid locking with the Steering turning full to left is. I called the Yamaha Boys STUPID, because of the Way they desigend the Steering Lock on the '09 Max. I'm NOT calling Randy Stupid, why would I ??
Squeeze Posted June 18, 2009 #10 Posted June 18, 2009 I thought the fight was on too. Good save Squeeze. I'm sorry, but you gotta save the Chips and Beer for some Time in the Future ... Please Folks, gim'me a Break . I'm still german, when i throw in a quick Comment, and it sounds weird, don't feel offended. My English is somewhat twisted sometimes (maybe every Time) and not anyway near to be called "good enough". I'm still trying ... since Years ...:think::bluesbrother:

Would you want to lock the forks turned to the left instead? RandyA I keep reading where those 1st Gens are odd. I've never owned, ridden or seen a bike like that. My '07 has the kickstand on the left and when I lock the forks to the left (front of fender pointing left) like normal the bike will lean even more. Locking the forks to the right (front of fender pointing right) the bike will go more vertical and the kickstand will even slide to the right meaning less stable. FYI, you did make me go check. It didn't look like much difference in lean but it took about half the effort for me to push off the kickstand with the forks to the right.

I may have to go back out to the parking lot and check if it changes the lean angle one way or the other. I do think that by spreading out the triangle of the contact points that the bike should be more stable when you turn the forks to the right, as long as you don't make it too vertical. RandyA
Sailor Posted June 18, 2009 #17 Posted June 18, 2009 On my 02 I always cock the wheel to the left, it feels more stable that way. Also if you want to put a padlock on it has to be all the way left. Makes sense to me, but then I often make no sense at all.
Eck Posted June 19, 2009 #18 Posted June 19, 2009 Things that make you go... hmmmmm? Prune Juice is Great!!!!! :rotf::rotf::rotf: Only you Dan........got tears in my eyes and cant see the key board.......

BigBoyinMS Posted June 19, 2009 Author #20 Posted June 19, 2009 I always turn mine to the left..why you ask ?.....I have no idea...but I do mount from the right...think is easier... Thought I was the only odd one! Many times I mount and dismount from the right because it seems easier to me too. I started doing it because I have to park close to a wall on the left side of the garage.
