Midnight Posted June 17, 2009 #1 Posted June 17, 2009 I was hoping for some some help from the Zumo crowd. We are on our first trip with our Zumo 550 and realized today that it is not saying the street name when giving directions. It simply says turn right/left in so many miles/feet. I thought it was supposed to say the street names and beleive it actually did when I first got it. I have done an update to get the 2010 software. Did I loose this function when I did the update or is there a setting I can change. I have been all through this thing and cant find how to change a setting to restore this function. Does it exist? JR
Freebird Posted June 17, 2009 #2 Posted June 17, 2009 It may be the voice that you have selected. I use "Jill". I've found that some of the others don't announce the street names.
Midnight Posted June 17, 2009 Author #3 Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the info Freebird. I am using American English Jill as well and no go.
Freebird Posted June 17, 2009 #4 Posted June 17, 2009 Well...I'll look at mine tomorrow and see if there is a setting that I'm forgetting about. Can't think of anything else right now though.
BuddyRich Posted June 17, 2009 #5 Posted June 17, 2009 I have the voice set to "American English" and get the road names called out. Not "American English Jill" (tts)
silverdeer0454 Posted June 17, 2009 #6 Posted June 17, 2009 Try this link and see if it helps: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/support/searchsupport?search_key=zumo+550+no+street+names
silverdeer0454 Posted June 17, 2009 #7 Posted June 17, 2009 The link didn't work like I thought it would, so here is the info: In order to change this setting on the zūmo 550, please follow these steps: In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon. Tap on "Locale" The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed. The device should now speak street names.
Midnight Posted June 17, 2009 Author #8 Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the input. I am using American English-Jill, which says it is TTS. But still no street names are said. I'll keep trying tomorrow. P.S. Buddy Rich, the cable is installed and so far so good. Works like a charm. Thanks. JR
Midnight Posted June 19, 2009 Author #9 Posted June 19, 2009 Good news. I reset to factory settings and Jill is now talking away like crazy. Thank to everyone who weighed in and helped. There is alot to learn about this Zumo. It sure is handy though as it led us right to our hotel in the pouring rain. There is no way the navigator behind me could ever have read a map with the way it was coming down. JR
brcmos Posted June 19, 2009 #10 Posted June 19, 2009 i just bought a 2007 venture and it has a zuma 550 how do i get it to play thru the speakers of the bike and or the headset inthe helmet hooked to the bike Bryan
Freebird Posted June 19, 2009 #11 Posted June 19, 2009 All you have to do is run a patch cable from the output of the Garmin to the AUX input on the face of the cassette player.
Midnight Posted June 19, 2009 Author #12 Posted June 19, 2009 To get the gps to talk thru the speakers or headset you plug a patch cord from the aux out on the gps to the aux in by the tape recorder on the bike. You can get the cord from radio shack. You then select Aux on your radio controller and it will talk to you thru the speakers or headset depending on which one you have selected. You may have to adjust the volume on the GPS to what works best for you. Hope that helps. JR
brcmos Posted June 19, 2009 #13 Posted June 19, 2009 now that i got it thru my helmet headset if you connect your cell phone to it thru bluetooth can you make a call and talk via the talk button Bryan
BuddyRich Posted June 19, 2009 #14 Posted June 19, 2009 If you order one of my cables the answer is yes. Once you pair the phone to the 550 you can take and make calls and just talk thru your mic. PM me if you want one.
