ADC Posted June 16, 2009 #1 Posted June 16, 2009 Look what I just found on my scoot. It just happened to be sitting the right way when I walked past and something caught my eye.Needless to say I just ordered up a set of Dunlop EliteII's.I don't think I'll ever buy kenda kruz tires.
MiCarl Posted June 16, 2009 #2 Posted June 16, 2009 I found the exact same thing on a Metzeler ME880 yesterday. I ordered a set of the Kenda Kruz. I figure if I'm going to be throwing them away I might as well throw away the cheap ones.
Yammer Dan Posted June 16, 2009 #3 Posted June 16, 2009 Got the Kendra on mine right now. Time to sneak out and take a look!!
Guest seuadr Posted June 16, 2009 #4 Posted June 16, 2009 i'm curious to those of you who have experence with them: do the avon venoms hold up as well as the avon roadriders? they are fantastic tires for the price (the roadriders) i'm getting a 1st gen mk2 as soon as uncle sam coughs up my tax credit, and was considering a few different brands. looks like metzlers and kendas are out not a fan of dunlops either.. they stick like glue, but i just don't seem to get the miles out of them.
StarQ Posted June 16, 2009 #5 Posted June 16, 2009 Do a search for Avon of Venom X, you'll see lots of posts about how much people like them. As for the Dunlops, they wear because they stick. Stick is good but it comes at a price. i'm curious to those of you who have experence with them: do the avon venoms hold up as well as the avon roadriders? they are fantastic tires for the price (the roadriders) i'm getting a 1st gen mk2 as soon as uncle sam coughs up my tax credit, and was considering a few different brands. looks like metzlers and kendas are out not a fan of dunlops either.. they stick like glue, but i just don't seem to get the miles out of them.
mm482 Posted June 16, 2009 #6 Posted June 16, 2009 Arthur, We are sure glad you saw that. You were just a few miles from real trouble. Earl:Bunny2:
ddoggma Posted June 17, 2009 #9 Posted June 17, 2009 I got em too. 4000miles so far and no problems. I guess any brand can have a fail. But ,I will keep an eye on them more so now. That looks like you could get them for a replacment.........
ADC Posted June 17, 2009 Author #10 Posted June 17, 2009 How many miles were on the Kenda???? I don't know,I just bought this bike a few weeks ago and they were on there but they look like near new tires.
Yammer Dan Posted June 17, 2009 #11 Posted June 17, 2009 Check the numbers on that thing and see how old it was.
Skid Posted June 17, 2009 #12 Posted June 17, 2009 Decided to go with the Elite II's instead of the E3's ? I like the E 2's better.
ADC Posted June 17, 2009 Author #13 Posted June 17, 2009 Decided to go with the Elite II's instead of the E3's ? I like the E 2's better. Yup E2's have always performed well and I've never had problems with them.I think they're about the best all around tire for big bikes.
MiCarl Posted June 17, 2009 #14 Posted June 17, 2009 I don't know,I just bought this bike a few weeks ago and they were on there but they look like near new tires. My Metzelers came on the bike too. I don't know what abuse the PO did to them. Considering how they were mounted abuse seems likely.......
BigBoyinMS Posted June 17, 2009 #15 Posted June 17, 2009 Another low cost brand to look at is the Shinko's. They are basically Yokohama tires from my research. They supposedly purchased all the assets of Yokohama after the Yokohama factory was damaged in one of the earthquakes. I put a set on a VStar 650 and they look pretty good. Not sure about sizes for our bikes.
FROG MAN Posted June 17, 2009 #16 Posted June 17, 2009 I'm still running Kendas on all three bikes with no problems. With all brands once in a while there is a bad one.Does it look like a cut from road debris or something?
Gearhead Posted June 17, 2009 #17 Posted June 17, 2009 not a fan of dunlops either.. they stick like glue, but i just don't seem to get the miles out of them. Way too general a statement. Dunlop makes all kinds of tires! E2's and E3's wear like iron! I too was an E2 fan and was skeptical of the E3's, but I've used them now and they wear just as well and handle better. That said, my VR had E2's on when I bought it and I found a similar problem with my rear tire before too long. I figured they were probably pretty old and the bike just hadn't see many miles in the last few years so they didn't wear out. Jeremy

Jeremy fair enough, i had 404's. i haven't had good luck with dunlops on my car, either. does pirelli make motorcycle tires? i LOVE them on my car
gibvel Posted June 17, 2009 #19 Posted June 17, 2009 does pirelli make motorcycle tires? i LOVE them on my car Yes they do but they don't have the sizes that these bikes take. Mostly Sport tires.
tsigwing Posted June 17, 2009 #20 Posted June 17, 2009 I don't know about that. I just ordered a Pirelli MT66 for my front tire.
Gearhead Posted June 17, 2009 #21 Posted June 17, 2009 I've used that MT66 front. Check on the rear, they have a LOT of sizes in that model. It's a cheaper tire that handles well and wears halfway decent. Not a bad choice! Jeremy
RandyR Posted June 17, 2009 #22 Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) The Pirelli web site lists a rear tire available for the model MT66: 150/90 - 15 M/C 74H TL as well as the front 150/80 - 16 71H TL http://www.us.pirelli.com/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page MotorcycleSuperstore has the MT66 on sale: rear $91 front $99 (thats unusual, the front is more expensive than the rear???) V7Goose Posted June 17, 2009 #23 Posted June 17, 2009 See this thread - read all the way through for reports on the MT66 tires from start to end. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22152&highlight=mt66 Goose
Gearhead Posted June 18, 2009 #24 Posted June 18, 2009 Try Ronayers.com for tire prices, or SWmototire Jeremy
