Antenna bracket

Does anyone have a good suggestion on where I can get a bracket to hold my antenna on my '83? I've added a the OEM radio to the standard bike. I have the OEM antenna, but no bracket. I don't really have any way to fabricate one, and from what I've been able to see at Flatout Motor Sport, they don't sell the OEM anymore. So any help would be great!

Firestik, is the prefered replacement for the stock piece of junk.

I made one out of flat stock from home depot. I painted it Black and could mount anything I wanted. I'ts been a while ago, but I think I used 1/4 by 1 1/4 by I'm not sure of the lenght any more. I rounded the ouside edges so they weren't square, it looked like it belonged on the bike when i was done.

and OlRusty. You wouldn't happen to have an pics of how you made yours. I guess I'm not visualizing what it would look like. Did you have to do any welding?

I have used JB Weld and re-cut the threads on my stock antenna to make it work but my question is about the Firestick performance. My stock antenna's reception is just OK at best and I am wondering whether the Firestick is a great improvement. I can't get much AM/FM reception unless I am near the City.

If he has a stock 83 it doesn't have a c/b radio, just the am/fm. My 83 had a long whip antenna and picked up reception pretty good on the radio. I lost that antenna and haven't been able to find another 5 foot or so whip antenna so I bought a regular size replacement antenna for a car. It's not as long as the original and now the reception is much worse. I also would like to find a stock length, or longer, whip antenna. Would a Fire Stick c/b antenna improve the radio reception?

I went to my local CB store, picked up two flat aluminum truck mounts, the extended type, cut the one off and welded the pieces together. If you need a picture I'll see what I can do. I now have the clamped part to fasten onto the trunk rack, extended out past the trunk, with the hole all ready for an attennna. A little more money than what needs to be spent, but it works good and looks just fine.

I'd like to see what you're talking about. Right now, I can't get any decent reception on the radio at all. I have a powered antena attached to the OEM radio, but it just isn't good enough.

 

Although I'm really only using the tape deck with my iPod to play music and that works GREAT!

I don't know that an aftermarket antenna will help your radio reception much...maybe...but it will help your CB performance. Firesticks and such are CB antennas specifically, but will also work for a radio because radio reception is much less finicky about the antenna. I didn't like how fat the Firesticks are, even the Firefly model, so I got a Wilson Flex, 3'. It's the same construction as a Firestick, but thinner. Works well, and I was able to tune it for CB performance. Not that I've really used the CB since...just listened.
