I seen these because I turned my head but had started to make my move... still within my lane. kinda scared me a little, so I was thinking about those convect rounded mirrors would help??? Evan Posted June 15, 2009 #6 Posted June 15, 2009 I also had a close call on my way home from MD. Normally, I lean forward to check for vehicles in my mirror before I change lanes. That time, I was leaning back with my foot on the front pegs. When I checked the mirror, I clearly saw the last two riders behind me in our group. I figured they had secured the lane for our lane change, but when I changed lanes, I was less than a car length in front of a vehicle that had slipped into the passing lane ahead of them. taht vehicle was right in my blind spot . Not a good situation. I have always installed these convex mirrors on my vehicles, but have not yet done so on my new 88VR. They will be installed soon.

Also, they make things seem much smaller and farther away. That is why I perfer smaller convex mirrors than the ones pictured because I primarlily rely on my regualr mirrors.
Marcarl Posted June 16, 2009 #10 Posted June 16, 2009 I find that if I install them I have to look twice, once in the reg mirror and then another look in the fisheye, oh ya and then I remember to do a shoulder check as well, tooo much time to do a check for my comfort, so I just do a shoulder check, it's quick, easy and accurate and I don't have to worry. Guess that's why they were so heavy on that at rider's training.
BuddyRich Posted June 16, 2009 #12 Posted June 16, 2009 I put fisheyes on everything. Started doin it after I drove a cement truck for a living. Can't do a shoulder check in one of those. Just as safe if you take your time and learn how to use them. Maybe even a little safer cause you not totally taking you eyes off of what's goin on in front of you like you do when you look over your shoulder.

But one day after checking my mirror, I did a check over my right shoulder as I started slowly moving to the right of my lane. My heart skipped a beat when I saw something from the corner of my eye! It turned out to be the sleeping bag I had strapped to the trunk rack.

It turned out to be the sleeping bag I had strapped to the trunk rack. Just to be CLEAR... These are "additional safety aids" and ARE NOT substitutes for Shoulder Checks.
SaltyDawg Posted June 19, 2009 #15 Posted June 19, 2009 I find the smaller rectangular ones better, they take up less mirror space and still give you the blind spot coverage. They are great in the summer, but in the winter with temps below 32 they tend to fall off.
The Black Pearl Posted June 22, 2009 #16 Posted June 22, 2009 Have to admit I drove semi for a few years and really learned to love the bug eyes, after putting them on my bike I can honestly say, for me, its the best accessory I have put on it. I still do my shoulder checks but while riding my eyes bounce from one mirror, to the road, then another mirror, then the road, then the dash, then the road etc. So I like being able to see whats in my blind spot! Mine were 4 bucks but have the same swivel base and there great! And for me, being a larger guy the only thing it really covers up on the reg mirror is my shoulder which I dont need to see anyways. just my 2 cents
