Holly Posted June 15, 2009 #2 Posted June 15, 2009 Have a guy at work that bought a 2007 HD, doesn't have 1000 on it yet. Does not want to put miles on it, it will were out. He looked at me funny when I told him I already 3000 on my 2008 since Feb. I think he bought it for prestige.
buddy Posted June 15, 2009 #3 Posted June 15, 2009 A fellow I know has a HD sportster?anyway. He said the reason he trailers his is its not very comfortable so he trailers it where he needs to go then rides around then trailer it back home. He said that the trailer is his life line as well since he could not trust his bike? . He has around 3,000mi now, bike is 6yrs old. Told him my old 83 has 82,000+ mi he had to see it to believe it. Told him Peg & I came back from ST. Charles M&E on our RSV with close to 2,000mi and 603mi of that was on the last day driving straight home. Told him about our (Ambassador A.K.A. Wildhair39) has well over 300,000+ on his Motorcycles.... He said we were nuts.
scotty Posted June 15, 2009 #4 Posted June 15, 2009 I know a guy who is very proud of the fact that his harley has NEVER had a drop of rain on it....but gets washed twice a week. I asked him how often he rides it? He said maybe once a year. Go with whatever makes you happy.
juggler Posted June 15, 2009 #6 Posted June 15, 2009 Only 1000 miles? Never a drop of rain? That's insane! Your not a biker if you don't ride in the rain. I just passed 80,000 miles on my '99 RSV this weekend. I also washed it for the second time this year. Well, more like rinsed the worst of the road crud and bugs off with a little soap and water.
royalstarjac Posted June 15, 2009 #7 Posted June 15, 2009 What kills me is I see these enclosed trailers running around with Harley Davidson enblazened on the back and sides. I guess that says it all.
bongobobny Posted June 15, 2009 #8 Posted June 15, 2009 Hey, how many motorcycles do YOU know of that have a personalized travelling case?!!?
ArcsSparks Posted June 15, 2009 #9 Posted June 15, 2009 It's all about marketing if you own a harley or at least a sticker you're a real biker so the line goes, personally i don't think there's anything wrong with harley if you're willing to pay 2 prices for a "reasonablely" good mototrcycle. show me a harley with a 100k and I'll show you a bike that the engines been apart at least 2 times. plus if you buy a harley you have to have the "look" and that can cost as much as another bike.
GunnyButch Posted June 15, 2009 #10 Posted June 15, 2009 Sometimes it's just more convenient to trailer where you are going. If it makes them happy why care how they got it there.
Eck Posted June 15, 2009 #11 Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Trailering is a part of my life. Reason is, my wife doesnt like to ride much. I want to be with her on some of our weekend excursions, so I will trailer my bike to the place we are going for the weekend. Once there, I will get up early and ride off while my wife hits the stores and shops in that town / area. When I get home from riding, she always has a place in mind of where she would like to enjoy dinner. Off we go (in the cage) to dinner and spend the evening together enjoying each others company and other interests. Next morning I am off again on the bike enjoying what I like and later on in the day I will meet up again with my wife for another evening of shared interests. Trailering my bike is a must for me.....and if trailering my bike offends anyone, Im sorry, but I enjoy my wife and understand her feelings when it comes to riding my bike. I really enjoy sharing different interests with my wife. Edited June 15, 2009 by Eck
2WHEELSFORME Posted June 15, 2009 #12 Posted June 15, 2009 VERY STUPID THREAD! Sounds more narrowed minded than some HD riders. Who are YOU to judge someone for trailering thier bike? Lots of reasons for a REAL BIKER to trailer.
Kregerdoodle Posted June 15, 2009 #13 Posted June 15, 2009 $25,000.00 and 2000mls dosent make them " Bikers"

McBrush Posted June 15, 2009 #15 Posted June 15, 2009 VERY STUPID THREAD! Sounds more narrowed minded than some HD riders. Who are YOU to judge someone for trailering thier bike? Lots of reasons for a REAL BIKER to trailer. Couldn't agree more. Could be moving and getting the bikes to their new home, or just bought them and bringing them home from the dealer. OR...maybe he was on his way to the Yamaha dealer to trade them in for 2 new Yammies!! In any case, lots of reasons for ANY biker to be trailering.

Eck, your a stand up guy----Kudos to you. Steve
Snarley Bill Posted June 15, 2009 #17 Posted June 15, 2009 well i guess i have to put my 2 cents worth in. when i go somewhere more than a couple of hundred miles and my wife goes with me, i have to trailer my bike. cuz do to her having health problems like four brain anuerysms one of which has 26 coils and another having 13 coils which caused her to have a stroke, she just can't ride that far. i feel lucky that she is still here and able ride with me at all. i have the nickname " trailer boy" given to me by one of the site members that just don't have a clue what we have been through. so i have no problem with people trailering bikes. i will be trailering my bike to the 09 rally. just my 2 cents.
Tom Posted June 15, 2009 #18 Posted June 15, 2009 Ditto on the trailering bike. Debby has had 17 major neck and spines surgeries and its hard on her to ride..now she does it sometimes but its tough on her. Thats why I say it will be a miracle IF She rides with me to the Rally. IF you see the YamaHawg on August 3rd riding in you will bet my co rider will be TIRED!
Hummingbird Posted June 15, 2009 #19 Posted June 15, 2009 I recently bought a Rampage Power Lift for my truck so that I could take my Venture out to the Grand Canyon this summer. We intend to take our travel trailer and camp our way West but we also want to ride the bike. So I'm not trailering the bike but might as well be. 3 years ago we bought a QuickCamp trailer and took it to the Grand Canyon in Pennsylvania, had a beautiful 10 day camping trip. As soon as we got home I sold the QuickCamp, no microwave, no flush toilet, no air conditioner, no TV, no lotsa things that we ENJOY when we camp:clap2: we had the travel trailer then also but just had to try the QuickCamp - spoiled, whimpy, whatever ----
BuddyRich Posted June 15, 2009 #20 Posted June 15, 2009 By myself riding long distance is not a problem. But the wife won't/can't. So anything over a couple of hundred miles one way and the bike goes on a trailer. Just a fact of life and aging. If I had known I was gonna live this long I would not have abused or let others abuse this body so much when it was younger...
Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 15, 2009 #21 Posted June 15, 2009 Its all in what you want to do. I have had a few 'bikers' make negative comments about the trailer I pull WITH my bike. Who cares? Its a bit like the thread awhile back on who does or doesnt return the cool wave. Whatever. Just ride.
ArcsSparks Posted June 15, 2009 #22 Posted June 15, 2009 Sure there is lots of reasons to trailer a bike venture (rstd) people do it but I think all of us that are making fun of "trailer queens" are talking about one kind of person and this would be him \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
Sleeperhawk Posted June 15, 2009 #23 Posted June 15, 2009 I can understand the trailering and I hope that Mechanic and I can continue to ride together for a hell of lot more years. Yes, I tease Eck about his trailer, but geeze who needs a trailer for a coffee pot ? :rotf:
Guest curtismiller Posted June 15, 2009 #24 Posted June 15, 2009 Trailer all the time.Macho aint always mucho.Rubber banded pony tails on men aint either.
Midrsv Posted June 15, 2009 #25 Posted June 15, 2009 I've trailered my bike to Florida a few times. We go down for a week at the beach and if the bike is there it will be via the trailer. I would rather ride it but there are times when it is not practical for a variety of reasons. I've had people give me grief for trailering and I just challenge them to put the number of miles on their bikes that I do in a year with our without a trailer, 20k+ miles per year. Most of them haven't had their bike more than 200 miles from home. Dennis
