SilvrT Posted June 29, 2011 #26 Posted June 29, 2011 Stop wasting your time. ....... but still very tinny sounding, Different ears hear things differently (different strokes for different folks) ... my RK's (baffles removed) do not sound "tinny" (to me or to anyone else I know that's heard them). You are correct in saying a V4 will never sound like a Vtwin tho ... unless of course, 2 of the cylinders aren't firing ...
Sailor Posted June 30, 2011 #27 Posted June 30, 2011 The last thing I would want is for my V four to sound like one of those bang bang V twins. I prefer the roar of a four.
dingy Posted June 30, 2011 #28 Posted June 30, 2011 Attached is a YouTube video I did related to the TCI. You can hear what it sounds like with a stock set of gutted mufflers on a 1st gen. I thank God almost every time I start it that it doesn't sound like a Harley. Gary
Hulign Posted June 30, 2011 #29 Posted June 30, 2011 Hey Mashley... Do you have a link to this info? I have a set that's way too quiet. Thanks! I just put a set of Road King pipes on my 2008 RSTD. I installed them in about an hour the first time with no modification. I will say that at that point I was not impressed. I pulled them back off and went to the Delphi forum and printed out the instructions on doing all 4 stages of modifications. Started with Stage 1, drilled 4- 1/2" holes in the inlet baffle plate. Re-installed, still wasn't enough sound. Went to Stage 2 drilling the 1 1/4" baffle plug out of the outlet side. Re-installed them again and there it was exactly what I wanted. I get compliments all the time. Went to a bike night Monday night and a guy riding a RKing recognized the pipes and wanted to listen. He said it sounded like an old '54 Bel Air with glass packs. I am very pleased and if I ever want to be louder I still have Stages 3-4. I will agree that without modification they are not much louder than stock. As for gasket, didn't need one. The chrome v-twin clamps most of us use are notched on the inside. Mine sealed perfect, no leaks. Except on the header pipes at the Y, but that is a yamaha defect that alot of us had. I ordered my mouting brackets out of the classifieds here and they came with all the new bolts needed to do the job. I got about $80 in the whole setup. If you want more sound try the mods, if you want nasty loud, get the baron's 4-2-4 or bag slash nasty boys. I had these and they were too much for me. My only regret is not going with the RK mufflers first. Just my 2cents. Safe riding to you!
Hulign Posted June 30, 2011 #30 Posted June 30, 2011 A google search for "Delphi Venture RK muffler mod" found it. Will have to try this. Thanks all Frank
MidnightSpook Posted June 30, 2011 #31 Posted June 30, 2011 I guess I'm just too cheap to buy an aftermarket set of mufflers, so I slash cut my pipes on my VStar 1100 and it sounded okay, then on my first 05 Venture, I drilled both ends of a set of stock RK mufflers......loved the sound of the bike and they caused no ill effect that I could tell. The set I played with today were the ones with removable end caps so that made it very easy to just cut the two tack welds and remove everything. I haven't installed them yet so I'm not sure how they will sound, but I wanted to know if anyone else is running a set that is totally gutted and if it caused you any problems. I have located some baffles on the net that I can buy if needed. Thanks in advance for your help
SilvrT Posted June 30, 2011 #32 Posted June 30, 2011 Just got a set of Barons baggers, made by LA choppers. Have black tips to match the midnight. A little louder than I wanted but way cheaper than the Vance and Hines I was looking at. These ones are a straight slip on, no brackets to make. Deep rumble at idle, low rumble at cruising speed but real loud when you crack the throttle. They let everyone know you are not riding a V twin. uh ohhh... now who's gonna ride behind who enroute to Cody??? (maybe we'll hafta flit a coin?)
Sailor Posted June 30, 2011 #33 Posted June 30, 2011 I was thinking the same thing. I don't mind following as long as someone doesn't get us lost.
SilvrT Posted June 30, 2011 #34 Posted June 30, 2011 I was thinking the same thing. I don't mind following as long as someone doesn't get us lost. Actually, we're contemplating hauling the trailer (someone needs more room), in which case I'll be putting the stock muffs back on.
Yammer Dan Posted June 30, 2011 #35 Posted June 30, 2011 I AIN'T following Grindo.. Like to keep what little hearing I have left.

Disconnect two plugs then remove one of the slipons and there you have it. A really tinny sounding twin.
DMW Posted July 5, 2011 #37 Posted July 5, 2011 I'm very satisfied with the RK sound on my 2008, the thing is, it's necessary to remove the baffle plates fore and aft. I suggest aft first. If not loud enough, remove the front one. I will be modifying another RSV this weekend for a friend. I make the brackets and punch the baffles as per the likes of my riding friends. Reason to use RK's for me was to keep/store the stock muffs "IF" I ever want to put them back on for some reason. No sense destroying a perfect stock set when you can get RK's for $10 to $20 bucks a set! Renne I'm looking where do you find them for $10 to $20 a set? DMW
NYred Posted July 7, 2011 #38 Posted July 7, 2011 OK...I need to get rid of my Bubs...I'm hearing all about how the stock RK mufflers sound slightly louder than stock...I understand they pretty much bolt on except for the rears which need brackets made up...Anybody know where I can hear a set and when I can get brackets??? I'm not into doing fabrication myself so I'm hoping someone can help me...My Bubs are old and I'm getting tired of the noise to the point it's not fun to ride anymore...Thanks for ANY help... Thanks that's correct ... just a bit louder than stock Yammie's ... unless you drill the baffles out but even with that, they're not too bad. (now if I can remember to post the link to those sound files when I get home .... )

SilvrT Posted July 7, 2011 #43 Posted July 7, 2011 Check out these links... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=574369&postcount=13 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=574042&postcount=4 The clamps to get are the V-twin ones. You can do a search for these.
MidnightSpook Posted July 7, 2011 #44 Posted July 7, 2011 I'm looking where do you find them for $10 to $20 a set? DMW I got my first set for less than 50, but you won't find them that cheap on ebay. I would call around to local motorcycle shops....not dealers, and see if they have any sitting around. Most HD guys change their pipes and just leave the original ones at the shop that changed them.

Thanks The baffles I ordered for my new to me Screamn' Eagles mufflers are in transit to my house and if they work out for me, I would be happy to ship my stock mufflers to you. They came off of my 05 Venture and are in pretty good shape. These are the ones I bought
Jactana Posted July 7, 2011 #46 Posted July 7, 2011 Just finished putting Harley Muffs on my 2009 RSV. Made my brackets, bought the wide clamps, spent 4 hours gently persuading the muffs on, cleaned them, put the bags back on and started the bike. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Could barely tell the difference. My wife says she can tell but wants it louder. I guess now I have to drill them out. By the way, I haven't seen anything in any of the threads on this subject that discusses the fibre exhaust gasket on the RSV that you have to distroy in order to put the Harley's on. If you use 1/4" aluminum to make your brackets, you will have to get 3/4" long bolts for the muffs as the 1/2" arent long enough. Best to get these before 10:00pm. I used Drag Specialties clamps and they cost $9.50 each and are available almost anywhere. Anyway, just my thoughts on this mod. This is the best site ever!! Thanks Freebird. I put a pair of near new 2005 RK mufflers on my '06, they were definitely louder than stock, with a deeper tone. I've put about 20,000 Km on them, and they've burned out and have got progressively louder yet. They sound really nice now, mellow rumble at idle. I personally wouldn't want then any louder, and am happy I didn't drill them out originally. Regards, Ron

You need the RoadHouse pipes. Check for prices, but I think around $280.00. They sound great. I think I got them,,,, do not remember. I love mine and a lot of people like them. Someone said it sounds like a corvette on steroids. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0w2QNs7ebw]YouTube - '08 RSTD Roadhouse moto classic[/ame]There are more on Youtube somewhere. Fuzzy

MidnightSpook Posted July 9, 2011 #49 Posted July 9, 2011 Keep me in mind when you get your other ones... Think my e-mail is in profile...I have to check...Signed up today... Well I had to reinstall my stock mufflers. The baffles I ordered were 3" and I thought they were the right size, but after removing the endcap this morning I realized that they needed to be more like 3.5". I've already spent way too much money on this mistake already, so now I have a nice set of hollowed out Screamn' Eagle pipes with clamps and brackets sitting in the trunk of my car......should have just spent the money on the Barons slashcut mufflers.
