Donnie1 Posted June 11, 2009 #1 Posted June 11, 2009 I had a VStar 650 Classic a few yrs back and a popular mod in those bikes was to get a set of front turn signals and put them on the rear. The reason for this is because the rear lights are just that, turn signals. By putting a set of front lights, you not only have turn signals but running lights as well. And we all know the more lights the better. All you do is splice into the taillight. Was just wondering if anyone has done that to the Venture?
Donnie1 Posted June 11, 2009 Author #3 Posted June 11, 2009 Yes done it, the first week I had the bike! Was just curious. I'll be looking for a set to do it myself. Did a quick search and see anything about it here.
KiteSquid Posted June 11, 2009 #4 Posted June 11, 2009 GREAT IDEA!!!! What bulbs would you put in the lamps? You might think about 2357 or 3496 lamps. Click HERE for a thread on using them. At a higher cost there are also some who install a LED light board in the stock rear turn signal housings that add Stop/Tail/Turn functionally to the stock housing. Custom Dynamics markets them as Dynamic Clusters and are available HERE. Scroll down the page to about half way.... but they cost about $81 for the pair. plus shipping. There might be other manufacturers on the market.... For alternatives: Most of us add a 15" LED lamp from a semi trailer, to just under the trunk. It puts more light, higher, like THIS one from Diamond R. If you don't want the plastic chrome trim, you can find it for a lower price and in different configurations. I installed one with retroreflectivity and if I want it, all 11 LEDs work as running lamps. Some guys have installed two extra lamps from the H-D catalog. It is a chrome piece that mounts behind your licence plate and adds two lamps outboard of the licence plates. Regrettably I don't have the H-D part number handy.
Donnie1 Posted June 11, 2009 Author #5 Posted June 11, 2009 Thanks for the info. Right now I am looking at as cheap as possible. Previous owner already put a bar under the trunk. I have my sights on a pair of front lights from a Venture for alot less than teh LED's. So for now I'll go that route and take a look a t the lights you have listed in your post.
Maritimer Posted June 11, 2009 #6 Posted June 11, 2009 I put these this spring in the back of mine http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/3FunctionSmFINAL.gif They work great. Not only I get LED turn signal (Amber), I also get red running lights and brake lights to go with it. Works great. Here is a post and video down a few posts of my bike with those on. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34601 I have another set for sale if you are interrested.
Donnie1 Posted June 11, 2009 Author #7 Posted June 11, 2009 That looks pretty good. I looked again at my taillight and it is already an LED, the turn signals are just the regular bulb. I may go with those at a later date though. By the way, what are you asking for the extra set you have?
RandyR Posted June 11, 2009 #8 Posted June 11, 2009 Based on what's been posted, I take it that the LED Dynamic Clusters optional Load Equalizer isn't needed on our 2nd gen machines?
KiteSquid Posted June 11, 2009 #9 Posted June 11, 2009 Load equalizers (high current resistors) are needed with the factory turn signal and hazard relays. they are mechanical, not digital..... Maybe someone will point out the digital versions....
