Bubbajbi Posted September 3, 2007 #1 Posted September 3, 2007 So here it is, Rich. I have been fuelling up at the Shell station on Vasco and Northfront in Livermore and my performance has improved. Now get this. The last two tanks have come from Citgo at the 7-11 on the corner of Vasco and Las Positas in Livermore and have gotten almost 200 miles out of each tank in the same to-and-from work riding conditions. I don't know how often you fill up there but you should try it. By the way I always use 91 octane. Just a little prefference of mine. Just thought I would let you know and others not in the area could try Citgo and post if they have seen a difference. Bubba:detective:
Dano Posted September 3, 2007 #2 Posted September 3, 2007 Just a personal preference, but Citgo is owned by Hugo Chavez, the leader of Venezuela. He is using his countries oil to finance his own personal and political gain. I myself will not buy from him. Sorry to highjack, off the soapbox now. Dan:sign13:
Freebird Posted September 3, 2007 #3 Posted September 3, 2007 I agree...I avoid Citgo at all times. A couple of months ago was the first time since I can remember that I stopped and bought $5.00 worth of gas. I was out in the country making some sales calls and was on empty...the only station was a Citgo. I looked at my GPS to see how far it was to the next town and then bought $5.00 worth of gas...just enough to get me to another station.

Bubba:detective: Last year at VWIII we had a Shell Station acrossed the street from the Susanville Best Western. Most of the riders filled up there, and that's when I was getting the 50mpg out of the '83. I think Rich-99 and I also bought fuel at a Shell on the way up to Susanville. Anyway... since buying gas at any station to Ft Collins and back my milage has dropped into the high 30's and low 40's. Gotta get back on the Shell band wagon. For the little difference in the price I'd rather go for milage.... at least give Shell another try and see what happens....
GeorgeS Posted September 3, 2007 #5 Posted September 3, 2007 Must be the " Corn Juice " Additive !! Do all stations in Calif. have to use that stuff ??
Condor Posted September 3, 2007 #6 Posted September 3, 2007 Must be the " Corn Juice " Additive !! Do all stations in Calif. have to use that stuff ?? I think to pass Ca specs they have to use a certain percentage of Methenol. Things didn't improve when I got out of the state tho-. MOF the best milage I got was with Methanol mix. Go figure.

Bubba:detective:where I'll fill up at the gippo station up the street from where everybody filled up at the Shell station. This is the place where I told everybody about my bike running better than ever, no vibration at any speed, and also got 50 to 55 mpg on my 99 RSV. So after we get into Susanville on our short VWlV, Eureka, Susanville, Reno trip, I'll be filling up there to see if I get the same results. I guess Citgo is out for me also Brent as this is the story I picked up on about this guy selling arms to the terroists. I normally always go for the cheap gas anyway, and that's the Arco next to Micky D's, or the Quick Stop across the street. Always burn 89, and get a normal 40 to 42 mpg down here at sea level.
Bubbajbi Posted September 4, 2007 Author #8 Posted September 4, 2007 After hearing about the story of who owns Citgo, I think my days of buying there are over as well. I think I will go back to shell. I do know one thing for sure and that is that I will not run Mobil in the bike anymore, especially in California. We are one of those states that has MTBE in it's fuel and I was told by a mechanic friend of mine that Exxon/Mobil has the highest percent of it in thier fuel. He said that if I really want to get good performance and mileage out of my bike, that I need to go out of state where they do not add MTBE. It is a waste product of refining that they ship to California because we will add it back into our fuel to be burned.

MrRadi8 Posted September 5, 2007 #10 Posted September 5, 2007 He is using his countries oil to finance his own personal and political gain And this would differ from everyone else how? Not really wanting to but we have no idea where the profits from the oil we buy is headed, nor how much oil from his country is in the Shell/BP/Whoever fuel we purchase.
