r12guy Posted September 18, 2006 #26 Posted September 18, 2006 Just goes to show you how differant each one is. I have had the F come up on the Dash and have seen my low fuel light. and havent switched the fuel valve yet. when i first got the bike, it would come on and only hold 3.6 gal. now i can go 160- 182 with out the light coming on and still havent put more then 4.5 gal in the tank. I have stopped checking Gas mileage, I figure Im enjoying the ride and what ever Im using if fuel is what its going to be. I do know that the ethanol (10%) doent get as good mileage as straight gas. And I do run Premium in her.
Venturing Sole Posted March 1, 2007 #27 Posted March 1, 2007 I commute about 25 miles to work each way, each day. Mostly parkway and highway riding. I have also had the fortune/misfortune to own two of the exact same 2006 RSV in the span of 9 months (accident claimed the first one). My low fuel light comes on almost simultaneous with the fuel trip meter starting at 0 miles. Between 6 and 15 miles later, the engine begins to starve and I rotate the reserve petcock. From that point I have gone about 30 miles before hitting one of my usual gas stations. My first RSV got typically 42 mpg. My current RSV gets about 40 mpg. I have wondered myself about leaving the reserve petcock in the forward position all the time and just using the low fuel light and fuel trip meter, but I haven't had the nerve to inconvenience myself in the event the result surprises me.
Guest Greg Crawford Posted October 23, 2008 #28 Posted October 23, 2008 First time poster.. New Member ... My low fuel light doesnt come on and my trip meter doesnt switch to R-Trip Ran out of fuel twice already trying to see if it will come on. Is htere a sending unit? Is there a way to check the bulb or circuit? Help Sounds like a great idea, Though I can live withoutit if I have to.. 99 RSV
N3FOL Posted October 23, 2008 #29 Posted October 23, 2008 I went as far as 20 miles on reserve. My mpg from 2 tanks ago was 40 mpg...this time it went down to 36 mpg. My Carbtune II is supposed to arrive today, so I'll by syncing carbs late tonight.
KiteSquid Posted October 23, 2008 #30 Posted October 23, 2008 Strap a gallon fuel in a DOT approved container on the passanger seat, and go for a ride. Try to run it out of gas!!!!! If you dont get a light see the service manual.
