Just piggybacking of this thread instead of starting another! Goose made it home safe to Texas too. Ponch and I took off Sunday morning around 10:00, intending to take it easy and stay off the freeways for a couple of days, just hitting the back roads on the way home. Didn't work out the way tho - we ended up riding straight through (1,316 miles for me)! We had a great time all day Sunday, winding down through Ohio on state routes, then picking up US62 near Kentucky and following it all the way across the state - GREAT road. We both felt real good when we talked about it around 6:00 PM, so we decided to ride at least a few hours more, each waiting for the other one to say it was time to find a room. THAT didn't happen; we just kept riding. Once it got dark we decided the deer dodging and guessing where all those little local roads went wasn't as much fun, so we jumped on the superslab and cranked up the speed a bit to burn the miles.

I gotta admit that it got real tough on me around 2:00 AM - I was still pretty beat from all the work on Friday and Saturday - that bending over constantly, along with getting up of the ground repeatedly, really tears on my old body, so I should have known not to attempt that ride straight through. But I have a tendency to think I am tougher than I should be, so once again I thought it would be no problem. By early this morning we were having to stop every 50 miles or so to kick and slap each other for such stupidity (and find some more coffee). Made it home around 2:00 PM - really not that much ahead of where I would have been if we had stopped and gotten a good night's rest. All that stopping and trying to stay awake takes a big toll on how many miles you can cover!

Ponch split off around Texarkana to head down towards Houston, so I'm waiting to hear from him that he finished the ride safely.

We had a great time at Don's, was great to meet new folks and re-meet many others, and the close to 3,000 miles over 5 days was a wonderful trip - thanx to all! Ride safe,

Goose

I'll piggy back on this thread too. It was great meeting everyone at MD. Goose, thanks again for working on and training me on how to work on my new bike.

I rode over to Ft. Wayne Indiana on backroads Sunday to visit with my brother and get a hot shower. Then rode home to Georgia Monday getting here at 9pm just as the sun was going down. Got caught in the mother of all 10 minute deluges crossing into TN from KY on I75. But the sun was shining in Georgia and I was dried out by the time I got here.

My bike clicked the 3 and 4,000 mile mark over the extended weekend.

great food and yummy cheesecake !!!! :clap2:

I might as well jump in here too. Dee and I got home yesterday, After leaving Don's we went to Sandusky where a week long bike week was starting. Hung around there a bit then took back roads south and west through Ohio. Got into Indiana where we spent the night, then due to weather, we got on the big road and made it home.

Thanks Muffin Man, bike doesn't scare off the kids anymore. Great to see all our old and new friends. Dee is trying to figure out a way to make the Skid-In or Mini-Ashville before the International Rally. Guess you guys didn't scare her too badly

Thanks to Don and Eileen, Brad, Lonna, Goose, and all that did so much to make this a great time for all concerned.:clap2::thumbsup::dancefool::big-grin-emoticon::thumbsup2:

I'm already looking forward to next year...:thumbsup2:

I peeled off from DragonRider and Ediddy on I75 about 13:30 yesterday and made it home about 2pm.

I don't know if Lewis posted it or not so I'll just make a quick note of it here. We had just crossed into Ky from Oh when Eddy came on the radio to say his back tire felt funny. It's no wonder, look below to see what we pulled out of his tire!!! We plugged it and pumped it and all was well the rest of the trip. (Well, I'll let Lewis tell you about the fire!)

Sure had a great time at MD! Thanks Don, Eileen and Dillon, y'all are great hosts.

I understand Bubba was there to help let the smoke out of the wires...........

'Preciate you being there to help, 6'r, glad it wasn't worse!

Naw, Dan, Bubba still hasn't let any smoke out of the wires, that was all on our favorite Newnanian(?)!!! :rotfl:

We did make it safe and sound. I had been planning on getting the "StopNGo" plug kit but hadn't gotten a round tuit so we had to use regular rope type plugs. I'm gonna get a kit ordered up this week.
