AKRefugee Posted June 6, 2009 #1 Posted June 6, 2009 If the rear shock has puked out oil will it still old air pressure? I am almost sure that the rear shock puked its oil and have the bike at a dealership. They said they pumped are pumping it up and seeing if it holds air. Want to make sure they are doing it right as originally he only put 7.0 psi in it because that is what the service manual said. Fortunately I have the E version of the service manual and was able to educate him. He said he would pump up to the 57 psi and see if it held. If it will hold air with the oil puked out how do I convince them it won't hold oil and it is shot?

Its no coin off their books if the shock is a warranty covered item? I wouldn't know, I'm one of those silly sods with a 06 Midnight without warranty.. ergh. But remember, 'the customer is always right' and insist on a new shock..
Tom Posted June 6, 2009 #3 Posted June 6, 2009 It will hold air pressure...I do not recommend riding it that way though. If you loose the air too it will squat all the way to the ground and out of control you WILL be. Mine went out and Yamaha could not get one(BackOrdered) so I raised cane about it and they gave me their cost on one and I applied it to a Works performance shock.
flb_78 Posted June 6, 2009 #4 Posted June 6, 2009 Yep, shock will hold air if it pukes the oil. There's a bladder for the air and it's separate from the oil. My shock had leaked it's oil out a long time ago and I rode on it for over a year like that. It's a harsher ride. Then it started leaking air and I replaced it with a Works Performance shock.
50btripn Posted June 6, 2009 #5 Posted June 6, 2009 I only had a slow leak on mine, with about 5k miles on the bike. My dealer replaced it, no questions asked.
