planning on trip around lake superior was wondering if anyone has made the trip and if you have any suggestions on what to see and where to stay etc.

We made the trip last year and it was a great ride. The views are what I'd expect in a commercial promoting Canada. Keep your eye out for the mighty moose. We saw one on eating on the side of the road as we drove around.

 

We tried to stay at the cheapest places we could find along the way. On the way up we stayed in Sault Ste. Marie at this place.

Not the fanciest place, but it's right by the Soo locks so you can see some big ships coming in. It's pretty cool to see at night.

Never been around the top, but we've been from Thunder Bay, to Duluth to Sault St. Marie. There are loads of places in the Twin Ports of Duluth/Superior. Beyond that many may not realize these places. I would recommend these places if you have the extra time.

Copper Peak Ski Jump - Tallest ski jump in North America. When open you can climb the hill and ski jump. IT'S REAL TALL - I've see the tops of airplanes as they fly by.

I'll let others talk about Thunder Bay, they have amethyst mines you can tour, or other places along the loop route. The only problem with a ride like this is having enough time to see it all.

I just did that trip last week> My only advice is bring warm clothes and raingear. Drove in the rain or mist every day and the temps were in the low forties on the leke front. Nice scenery though and all kinds of little motels and B & B to stay at. Thanks Daryl

It has a great 16"X 22" pull out map and a ton of detailed info for anybody doing the circle tour.

Looks like an interesting trip to take. For those who have done this are gas stations nurmerous enough that you don't need to worry about getting fuel, Especially between towns on the Canadian side?

Cheetarabbit when are you planning on going? I might be doing this around the end of June or early July.

Just got back from circle tour and there were NO gas stations open from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa. 140 miles. So be sure to fill up at Sault Ste Marie. All the rest of the trip there was plenty of places to stop. And a must do road is M-26 from Eagle River to Copper Harbor. If you go you will Love it.

Just got back from circle tour and there were NO gas stations open from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa. 140 miles.

 

There is a gas station in Montreal River. Which is about half way to Wawa. If you are heading North out of the Sault it is on the right hand side, very hard to see as it is up on the hill. Heading south bound it is impossible to see as you are rounding the bend and the fuel signs are very poor.
