Shamue Posted June 4, 2009 #1 Posted June 4, 2009 I'll be riding East in September for a few weeks. Plan is to leave NM around the 5th sept. head to DC Vietnam Memorial and others, then travel the Blue Ridge Pwy down to Asheville NC. East to Wilson and Top Sail Beach NC. Plan to turn back West there and hug the gulf coast with side trips getting back to NM around Sept. 25th. Looking for good places to camp and the mom and pop places to eat. Love BBQ. Been this way several times by myself but it's always good to here from others that have special rides, places to stay and eat. This will be my brother's first trip cross country on a MC and need to get him hooked. I'm riding an 08 RSV he will be on an 09 HD Electra. This may seem early to plan but I'm the type that likes to see the out of the way places, and do the back roads. Would like to meet members on the route as I feel like the Lone Ranger out here. Thanks.
mini-muffin Posted June 4, 2009 #2 Posted June 4, 2009 Well we can take care of you out this way. I'll get a list of places to stay for ya. Plenty of great places to stay and see on that trip. We've stayed in a few nice campgrounds and a few nice mom and pop places. The list of food would be long. When you get here we can set up a meet so you can meet a bunch of us at one time. Probably a few meets along your way. All we need is an excuse to go somewhere to eat, like the sun is shining, there's clouds, etc. you get the point. Margaret
painterman67 Posted June 4, 2009 #3 Posted June 4, 2009 as mini has already stated. Keep us posted and we will set it up if we can. Deadwod sounds like another good run to me. David

Been awhile since I been these, do they still bring the bowl full of Hush Puppies with butter as soon as you set dawn? That was good eating. RandyA

Shamue Posted June 4, 2009 Author #8 Posted June 4, 2009 I will post more when my route is definite and dates secured for the specific cities I will visit. Other than that while on the fly this adventure is open to change for places to ride, visit, eat and meet venture members. I will be in touch with as many as I can. Thanks for the invites, hope to visit soon. Shamue
Tombo Posted June 5, 2009 #9 Posted June 5, 2009 In the D.C. area there are two places to camp that are relatively close to the city, both on the north side. Greenbelt National Park is located near the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and the beltway (I95-I495). It is inexpensive but primative (no hook-ups that I know of) You can check for details at www.nps.gov. The other location is Cherry Hill Park in College Park, Md. This is a commercial RV type park and is located near the Beltway and I-95 North. Keep us advised of your plans. I live close to both locations.
mm482 Posted June 5, 2009 #10 Posted June 5, 2009 September is a good time of the year to ride the mts. in NC, but you will need to look out for hurricanes down east. I live about 40 miles east of Wilson. Sure hope we will get to meet you in September. Earl
tibadoe Posted June 5, 2009 #11 Posted June 5, 2009 The Blue Ridge Parkway will be nice that time of year. If you need a place to camp I like the Otter Creek Campground at milepost 60.8. Has a nice place to eat on site also. http://www.virtualblueridge.com/maps/otter-creek-campground.asp This is a small but friendly place. The link shows the campground map and the links at the top can direct you to other items of interest along the Parkway. Enjoy your trip.
Shamue Posted June 5, 2009 Author #12 Posted June 5, 2009 I want to thank everyone that has or is or will make suggestions for this ride. By planning a trip this early will give me time to do some research on the suggested travel information and help me prepare a contact list to meet as many people as I can prior to heading out. As everyone knows there is no better feeling than meeting new people with the same interest (motorcycles) around the country and that is exactly what I hope to do on this trip being new to Venture Rider. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Shamue
