I have an 07 RSTD. Do you turn the fuel valve to "off" when you leave the bike? I always left my '84 VR valve in the "On" position unless the bike was going to sit for several weeks, I don't think I ever had a problem. I'm wondering how the RSTD is with this.

I feel that its better to turn the petcock to OFF when the bike is going to be parked for more than a few minutes. Carburetor fuel floats aren't perfect shutoffs and some leakage will likely occur which will lead to a small amount of fuel evaporation and gum buildup in the carb. I've gotten in the habit of closing the petcock before turning off the motor if its going to be parked for a while.

I had an 1979 750 SE that I left parked for a month with stabilizer. Complete tank of fuel drainded into the crankcase. Since then I shut mine off if I won't be riding for a few days.

Like anything mechanical keeping it moving once in a while can't be a bad thing. However if I forget to shut it off, I don't worry about it.

my two cents.

I typically leave mine on at all times and haven't had a problem. Bear in mind, there is a fuel pump in the circuit, so the old problem we had with gravity-feed "tank-to-carb" arrangement shouldn't occur. The tank supplies the fuel pump and the fuel pump supplies the carbs......

Thanks for the replies. I figured the fuel pump arrangement would minimize seepage into the engine.
