SapperMedic Posted June 3, 2009 #1 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) I had a guy that I have dealt with before on E-bay offer to sell this to me for $300 yesterday. Sent me a picture of it tonight. He says it came off a V-max. I Haven't seen anything like it but think it may be a v-boost. Is it worth $300? Edited June 3, 2009 by SapperMedic picture
Condor Posted June 3, 2009 #3 Posted June 3, 2009 Sure looks like one to me.... Wish there were more pics. Just make sure it's all there. Maybe someone will chime in that know a little bit more about it... Squeeze!!! where are you???
waterbug Posted June 3, 2009 #4 Posted June 3, 2009 Not to sound to stupid but what is a v boost? thanks
BuddyRich Posted June 3, 2009 #5 Posted June 3, 2009 The V-boost opens up at 6k and allows each cylinder to draw thru 2 carbs instead of one
Dano Posted June 3, 2009 #6 Posted June 3, 2009 That looks like the same thing I have in my cabinet except I don't have the actuating solenoid and the electronics that control it. Some modifications need to be done to the bike in order for it to fit, it raises the carbs about an inch. My personal opinion, a little stout on the price, I paid a hundred bucks for mine, but then again, didn't get the other stuff with it. I'm just going to use a manual control Dan
Squeeze Posted June 3, 2009 #7 Posted June 3, 2009 If he throws the Controller Box in, the Orice might be ok, not a Bargain, but Ok. The Controller Box is a Black Box, larger than a Pack of Cigarettes but also thinner than that. Has a round 5 Pin Connector which goes to the Servo Motor in the Picture.
SapperMedic Posted June 3, 2009 Author #8 Posted June 3, 2009 It is now on E-bay for $600+ without a controller, too much for me and too complicated to take a chance on for my 23 year old bike
Snarley Bill Posted June 3, 2009 #10 Posted June 3, 2009 That's just crazy hey squeeze, i had an 89 v-max, very warmed over that i bought new. with all the mods i did it was a high 9 second machine. i did'nt find the v-boost to be all that impressive, at least not like all the publications made of it. i heard all these stories about all hell breaking loose when the v-boost opened. i did'nt notice that. all hell broke loose from the git go on mine. i think the v-boost was way over publisized. i honestly think there are much more noticable performance options. do you agree or disagree? bill
pegscraper Posted June 3, 2009 #11 Posted June 3, 2009 I see the valves and intakes there, and the motor actuator, but I don't see the electronic brain box that reads the rpms and tells the motor what to do. Even at $300, he's trolling for a sucker. Keep your eyeballs in ebay and you can find the full setup for half that. You may be able to piece it together for even less. I had it on my bike for quite a while. I found it to make a real nice difference, but 32mm carbs are too small for this engine. Anything at all that will let more air in the engine will help.
muffinman Posted June 3, 2009 #12 Posted June 3, 2009 I dont know what the black part is but the rest looks like a tuggs induction kit I have in the I gotta get these parts installed pile. If you want to see the pics of what I have just ask. Jeff

I had my Bike on the Dyno two Years ago and made two Runs, one with the V-Boost on and the other Run without V-Boost. The Motor made 80 kw on teh rear Wheel without V.Boost and with V-Boost on, it made 88 kw on the Wheel. Made 10 Percent more Power and around 3 or 4 Percent more Torque, iirc. But anyway, i said it before and i say it again "You shouldn't have sold her !! !! " Or, even better, bought a '09 VMAX !!

" Or, even better, bought a '09 VMAX !! i'm not saying it did'nt increase the power. it just did'nt seem all that noticable when it did come in. at least not like the tests portrayed. maybe alot of the hype was the intake sound which i never heard. i put the kerker 4 into 1 exaust on it with competition baffle almost at day one. you could'nt hear the intake. i wish i still had it. it is still the coolest bike i ever owned. sounded like a small block chevy on uppers, and ran like a blown big block chevy. not quite as fast as my zx 14 but totally bad. a real arm stretcher at any speed. back then there was'nt near the goodies available. i had to make my own. i knocked off over 124 lbs. i looked at a new max a few weeks ago and decided i'm on my last fast bike. got a little more to do to my 14 then i'm going to hang up the speed thing. my medication and the extreme g force just don't get along. thats the only thing i really miss getting old. ( THE SPEED THING)
Squeeze Posted June 3, 2009 #15 Posted June 3, 2009 That's right Bill, there is just a tremendous Pull when everything is fine. From Idle to Redline constantly raising Power while Torque stays pretty much the same. There's the Difference to all the other Bikes, either they pull up from Idle and fall their Nose halfways through the RpM Range or they do nearly nothing from Idle up to half Way and then the Power kicks in. Your 14 is sure a great Bike, but there's not so much get up and go until you hit 5 kRpM. This is the Characteristic of those I4 Engines, and that's where the Legend Vmax takes Place. Rough, shear Power from Idle to Redline. The new Max isn't about Speed, Speed is only the Side Effect. It's the unbelieveable Acceleration where it's all about. This Beast pulls and pulls and pulls. When i came home from the Vmax Meeting three Weeks ago, i made a Stint with 100 mph Average(!!! but not so legal on this Stretch of Autobahn at Night), 40 Minutes to empty the Tank, but it was pure Pleasure. I'm not so much into riding full Speed all the Time on a naked Bike but .... I'm mounting a bigger Tank these Days
