Removal of throttle cables

I want to install new grips on my RSV but I am having a difficult time removing the cable ferrules from their channels. I can't seem to get enough slack. Can anybody offer some advice? Thanks

Pull the tank and open up the cable junction on the left side where the cruise control cable joins. You can disconnect the top two throttle cables there.
