I just got off the phone with PCW and ordered a clutch kit for my 99 Venture. Well not the whole clutch kit, but the new improved spring, gasket, and full clutch disk. The guy I talked to was great. He asked me some questions about my bike to make sure I was ordering the right stuff for my situation. He didn't try to over sell me on anything. I mentioned this site and he said he has dealt with many of us here and everyone he has dealt with has had good success with these kits, even the trailer pullers. So does anyone have any feedback on how they liked the PCW kit, or how it is working. Any suggestions or things I should look for while doing the repair? Also is it something I should save and do at M.D. at Freebirds. I should be getting the parts on Monday or Tuesday, HOWS THAT FOR SERVICE!!!

Big Mike....Who cant wait for M. D. YEEEHAWWW :dancefool:

I put the new clutch kit in mine. I love it. It feels like you can jerk the front wheel off the ground. I would advise you to buy 6 new bolts. I broke one of mine trying to put it back in. Sand your metal plates in your clutches ( like Freebird says in the clutch upgrade kit in the tech section).

I just got the same kit from PCW for my '01. I called just intending to order the new spring and leave my half disc in the back of the pack, but the guy I talked to advised me to replace the half disc with a full disc. He said the half disc absorbed some of the energy from the spring, so to get the best clutch I should replace the half disc. I think I'll be happy with the full disc in there since I've been driving with a clutch (m/c and car) for orver 40 years so I don't expect it to be any big deal.

He also said to look closely at the metal plates and if they were smooth and shiney to re-surface them. His 1st recommendation was to get them bead blasted with medium glass beads if I can, or to cross hatch with sandpaper as an alternative. He did say if they still have a nice matt finish (the factory finish) to leave them alone. My riding buddy said he always scrubbed his on a concrete block and while that might be OK, I'm probably going for the bead blasting if needed.

Good Luck!

I installed the kit last fall, spring and all new discs. It works great.

I followed the instructions from PCW and had my lap top in the garage so I could follow the steps from the tech section. Absolutely no problems. I haven't pulled my trailer yet but the clutch is awesome.

If you read though some of the other posts about this you will find me there but in case you don't here's what I did.

I bought the kit with the full disc and installed the new spring etc and rode the bike around for a couple of weeks but I didn't care for how hard the clutch grabbed at times so I took it back apart and put the half disc back in and now I like it a lot.

I have no more slippage, the clutch bites real good in all gears so I'm happy with what I have. I don't care for the rocket type take offs.

They make some great part though,

I just put the PCW kit in last week. Nice and crisp. It made the stock one feel spongy in comparison. I should have done it a long time ago, but it's only money. But it got to where I had no choice, as the thing slipped on me once last fall in a passing maneuver. Installation took me a couple hours, but I also pulled the whole clutch basket and changed some shift linkage parts while I was in there.

Mike,

I have done several of them and they work great! if you want to take a ride out to Marine City this weekend I'll install it for you, takes about 30 minutes....you wont be disappointed with it :no-no-no:

FYI to those that have not changed out their clutches - You can do this without draining the oil. Just put it on the side stand and go at it. You will get a couple of drips come out, but that's about it.

Easy to do.

Put a Piece of Wood under the rear Tire, about one Inch thick, and no Oil will come out, except for the little Amount which keep catched behind the Diaphragm Spring and the Ring which the Spring goes into. Use a Rag and not one Drip on the Floor.

So, what does this kit do to the all important "friction zone"????

It does narrow it a little and makes it more crisp. It makes the stock clutch feel spongy and unresponsive in comparison.
