bongobobny Posted May 27, 2009 #2 Posted May 27, 2009 What I would check first is the connection for the wires on the temperature sensor on the right side near the frame on the front edge of the motor. There are 2 wires that may be disconnected. Just follow that big black hose running just below the frame on top of the carbs towards the front and you should find them...

There's also a brown ground wire that needs to be connected to the frame. The sensor housing is isolated due to it being placed in the hoses. It's a short wire and attaches to a screw just above the housing on the frame.
bobcat Posted May 27, 2009 #4 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) I need help my thermastat gague on my 86VR is nor working some one said to check relay dose any one know where it is and how do i check it what do i do I have a 86VR also and that happened to me too..Here's what I did..(real simple) Take that triangle shaped panel off the rt side that has the grill and reflector.. Just above the cylinder, staring you in the face is the thermostat..It has a brown and blue wire going to it...disconnect and clean up the connection...I used a small wire brush and electrical cleaner and that did the trick.. I forget which is which but there also is a single wire going to a switch..I cleaned that up also and squeezed the female end just a bit so it fit more snug..I think that was the fan thermostat..Might as well get them both while you're in there Edited May 27, 2009 by bobcat

Rottdoglover Posted May 28, 2009 #6 Posted May 28, 2009 Just happened to my 88. I clamped a new ground wire on it and all is well.
