Cleaning handgrips

When it's hot out I ride with fingerless gloves. After a day of riding my fingers have been stained black from the handgrips. What's the solution to this? Is there something I can use to clean the grips to help prevent this from happening?

 

I figured you guys would know something about problem and have some good advice for me. Changing grips is not a solution. I had the Kuryakyn grips on my Valkyrie and got tired of them.

My fingers never turn black from the grips...Are you sure it's not the dye from your gloves???

I don't wear gloves in the summer and my Kuryakyn grips turn my hands black. I assume it is from the sweat on my hands. I've washed the grips but that doesn't seem to help.

I also wear fingerless gloves and my fingers get black too but it's not from the grips, it's from the brake and clutch levers...the aluminum. Thought about polishing them up and then applying a couple coats of clear.

Never thought about the levers doing it. But you're right they could veruy well be the culprit.

 

I know iot's not dye from my gloves because the palms of my hands never turn black, only my exposed fingers. That's why the levers make sense to me.

 

There's another project to undertake one rainy day. Cleaning the levers and then applying some clear coat.

You guys must have some weird chemicals in your body. My levers have never done that. Drink BEER, it flushes out all the nasty stuff in you system...:whistling:

My hands sweat in the summertime and I therefore wear gloves all the time when I ride. I use a matched set (right & left) of full fingered golf gloves. They're thin, buttery soft, lightweight and perforated so they're cool and I keep my hands clean while retaining a very good tactile sensation.. Very comfortable. Plus, I don't end up with those odd tanned places on the back of my hands and knuckles, from the fingerless gloves!!

 

(I use the white ones, because it's different and when traffic is heavier or if I'm not convinced the person behind me is paying close enough attention, I use hand signals in addition to the turn signal lights. The white is much more noticeable (and it goes so well with my tires )!

 

I don't generally like padded palm gloves because they make my hands hurt after a while (especially on the Goldwing). But, if my hands are bothering me on a given day I can take one of those thin rubber grippers you can get at WalMart for opening jars and cut one down for inserts in my golf gloves for the palms.

They feel much better than the stock ones, plus they are PURDY!

I will agree with the levers being the culprit though. I haven't had that problem since switching to the new levers.

I tried 1 bottle ... didn't work ... then I tried 2 bottles... still didn't work ... then 3 .. 4 ... then I lost count and didn't give a Sh$t anymore...

Does anyone know if those chrome leavers will fit a 1st Gen? Or where one could find chrome leavers for a 1st Gen?

I have used golf gloves in the past, and yes, they are very comfortable. But if your hands sweat as much as mine, they tend to turn mushy......
