Nemo Posted May 25, 2009 #1 Posted May 25, 2009 Since this 99 RSV in still fairly new to me, I would like to know if this high pitched tinny sound coming from the engine is a common sound of these units or is something out of adjustment within the engine. I hear it most between 50 and 70 MPH. Reminds me of an old Chevy that I had, and had to occasionly adjust the tappets to reduce the clicking sound. Or, is this something not to be concerned about?
NCReb Posted May 25, 2009 #2 Posted May 25, 2009 Hi Mine does the same thing, 60 is the loudest, drives me nuts. I got an 07 and found if you sit a little further back you don't hear it. Also the Bricktown tires roared so bad I had to change them after 3,000 miles. Just my two cents. NCReb
1BigDog Posted May 25, 2009 #4 Posted May 25, 2009 More than likely your hearing the whine/chirp that is famous on these bikes. Straight cut gears and the clutch basket are the culprits. Nothing wrong but on some its louder than others. Now, you mentioned clicking sound. That may be a dry driveshaft spline. They will make a clicking sound when dry. Yamaha is very cheap with their lube. Also the rear hub might need some attention too.
