aspen60 Posted May 24, 2009 #1 Posted May 24, 2009 Okay maybe it's just me being stupid, but how am I suppossed to check the engine oil when I'm alone? Does everyone just balance their bike with one hand and bend over, almost standing on their head to see that little sight glass that doesn't show any oil until the bike is standing straight up and down! Just my personal rant:headache: Surely there is a better way to check my oil.
KeithR Posted May 24, 2009 #2 Posted May 24, 2009 Put your stand on a block of wood until level......2-3/16" thick works for me...(I have leveling links installed) Keith
pegscraper Posted May 24, 2009 #3 Posted May 24, 2009 Kneel down to where you can see it and pull the bike up to level. It's not hard. I do it all the time.
SteveW Posted May 24, 2009 #4 Posted May 24, 2009 Use a small telescoping mirror you can pick up at auto zone cheap. then while you sit on the bike you can check the oil level.

Jdix Posted May 24, 2009 #7 Posted May 24, 2009 Being somewhat technically challenged, I use one of Freebird's center stands. Works great.
Venturous Randy Posted May 24, 2009 #8 Posted May 24, 2009 Or, you can upgrade to a 1st gen. Centerstands were not an option, they came standard. RandyA
aspen60 Posted May 24, 2009 Author #9 Posted May 24, 2009 And where would one get a centerstand if one was so inclined to not want to bend over or use a mirroror or get upset about the oil sight glass anymore? (thanks for the responses)
hillrider Posted May 24, 2009 #10 Posted May 24, 2009 What Steve said. - - - - - A mirror - - - - - - - on a stick.
Steve S Posted May 24, 2009 #11 Posted May 24, 2009 And where would one get a centerstand if one was so inclined to not want to bend over or use a mirroror or get upset about the oil sight glass anymore? (thanks for the responses) Freebird used to make and sell an attached centerstand, but I don't believe he does that any longer. The only type that I know of is the stand that Carbon 1 makes. It's great for for putting the bike on to do any kind of work. However you do have to jack the bike up and put the legs on it. A bit of work just to check the oil, but its great to use when washing the bike. He has them listed ion the classifieds. Good luck
Mike G in SC Posted May 25, 2009 #12 Posted May 25, 2009 With the mirror on a stick,,,, use a small flashlight to bounce off the mirror to the window. Unless it's bright sunlight,,,, it helps.
