muffinman Posted May 20, 2009 #1 Posted May 20, 2009 I think Mini made a decision and test drove a new Honda insight. For any of you that know her this is a Big deal she likes her Mustangs but agreed to buy a new car while I am in the sand box. Jeff
painterman67 Posted May 20, 2009 #2 Posted May 20, 2009 The insight is nice,But I really expected a new pony in the stable. David
halfwitt Posted May 20, 2009 #3 Posted May 20, 2009 My daughter will be very disappointed - I raised her to be a Mustang fan.
krome rose Posted May 20, 2009 #5 Posted May 20, 2009 Wow! I'm speechless. I guess she could reach the pedals on that one. Go Margeret! Brandy
mini-muffin Posted May 20, 2009 #6 Posted May 20, 2009 First off I've never bought a new car always got used. So when I was forced to look at cars the first thing I looked at was the convertible mustang. Then that darn practical side kicked in so I figured I should actually look at what was out there. Plus I'm kinda cheap. Really hated the thought of spending that 34,000 on a car even though I'd really like the car. So I tried out the honda, Jeff thinks this is his way of getting a goldwing eventually. Anyway it wasn't bad had good pick up and it's kinda cute. Oh yes I can reach the pedals. So I may just end up with one of these. Oh I already do have two mustangs, so I can wait a bit till I add another. Hey Jeff has 6 bikes I can have three mustangs eventually. Margaret
SilvrT Posted May 20, 2009 #7 Posted May 20, 2009 I watched a video on the Honda Insight... I noticed no running lights. What's happened to that rule that all (new) cars must have running lights? I see more and more now without them...even cop cars...did they do away with that?
mini-muffin Posted May 20, 2009 #8 Posted May 20, 2009 It has daytime running lights standard. Maybe they just didn't show it in the video. It's got LED tail lights. Jeff didn't drive it but he liked it. Margaret
Eck Posted May 21, 2009 #9 Posted May 21, 2009 So Jeff, Are you really wanting a Goldwing......................
SapperMedic Posted May 21, 2009 #10 Posted May 21, 2009 Ford has that new Focus Hybrid that gets as good of gas mileage as the insight. I don't know about it's quality in comparison to the Honda but Car and Driver loved it a couple of months ago
muffinman Posted May 21, 2009 Author #11 Posted May 21, 2009 So Jeff, Are you really wanting a Goldwing...................... Eck I want an 1800 wing motor to put into the Blonde imagine how much more fun I would have with that combination.
Freebird Posted May 21, 2009 #12 Posted May 21, 2009 I think the Honda is a great car and will give you MANY miles of service. They look pretty nice too. As for the running lights...I'm not sure that it's law. I know that many Chrysler products do not have them. My company car is an '08 Caravan and it doesn't have them.
Skid Posted May 21, 2009 #14 Posted May 21, 2009 I've had serveral Hondas and I'm sure I will have more. Can't find a better car....
RedRocket Posted May 21, 2009 #15 Posted May 21, 2009 A Prius with similiar equipment to the Insight will probably sell for about the same price. You can buy a Prius in the low 20's easily. It's in your best interest to test drive one before you decide.
Crash Posted May 21, 2009 #16 Posted May 21, 2009 The new insight does look nice but then again so is the Prius.
bongobobny Posted May 21, 2009 #17 Posted May 21, 2009 No Mini-Cooper???? My wife likes those!! Wish I could surprise her with one of those for her birthday, but it's my turn for the new car. Hmmmmm, maybe I can make Mr. Monte last a couple more years...
ctraylor Posted May 21, 2009 #18 Posted May 21, 2009 I am not impressed with the hybrids. I teach automotive and have been studying the new hybrids. The projected battery life is 80,000 to 100,000 miles. If you do the math and factor in the price of the battery ($3000.00-$5000.00), it is cheaper to buy a car that gets 30 mpg than a hybrid that gets 45 mpg unless you trade it in before it is time to buy a battery and even then I am concerned what the residual value will be because it will be time for new batteries. They are only using 60% of the capacity of the batteries trying to prolong their life. The only way I can see you coming out ahead on these cars is if you lease one.
